Billy Kidd was born in 1980 in Panama City, Florida. He traveled the country many times before settling in Arizona where he grew up. The desert shaped his way of seeing light and color and as he taught himself photography, he was influenced by Man Ray, Andre Kertesz, Jacques-Andre Boiffard, Weegee and Helen Levitt, but mostly by Irving Penn.
In 2009, Billy moved to New York and began focusing on daylight portraits - an exercise that allowed him to develop a unique ability to direct models, encouraging and allowing them to be truly expressive.
Billy Kidd is self-taught, learning every day and on the job while shooting for such clients as Marc Jacobs, Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dom Perignon, Theory, Rag & Bone, Nike, Barneys, ERES, Mr. Porter, Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan, W, Interview, Numero, Numero Homme, WSJ, Le Monde, Porter, and Variety. His portraits include George Bush Jr., Jeff Koons, Olivier Rousteing, Ethan Hawke, Glenn Close, Jessica Chastain, George Clooney, Lena Dunham, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, James Franco, Thom Browne, Brooke Shields, Zooey Deschanel, James Franco, Jason Sudeikis, Paul Dano, Collier Schorr, Pharrell Williams and many more.
