The ascension from humble beginnings to extreme wealth is a familiar narrative, but rarely is it given life on the runways. Suno<\/a>\u2019s Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis have never shied away from tackling big themes so this season\u2019s starting point – photographer Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert\u2019s portraits documenting the rapid change within the Roma of Sintesti, Romania seemed right on target. Beginning after the fall of the Berlin Wall and ending in 2006, Sutton-Hibbert\u2019s images capture a community that moves from poverty, to all the material trappings of wealth. <\/p>\n

Taking powerful subject matter and translating it for the runways requires skillful handling; Beatty and Osterweis began with simplicity and built up to the bling. Starting with an austere slate dress with deep pockets and a pastoral feel, they set a rustic tone then slowly but surely they added on the detailing they\u2019ve come to be known for. Each look was just a little more ornate than the last. Stripes, color blocking, mixed prints and metallic detailing were added into the mix, as were a fair amount of Swarovski crystals. By the time the finale look appeared with its exquisite embroidery and tapestry-esque look, guests were steeped in luxury.<\/p>\n
