Her inimitable personal style and it-girl quality have made her one of the most followed women on street style sites, but it is her compelling work within the pages of Vogue Paris and on the runway for designers like Joseph Altuzarra that keeps fashion followers clamoring for more. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:22px;\">Having the pleasure of meeting Melanie, who is as charming in person as she looks in the countless street style shoots of her, I caught up with her to find out more about her look, her career and just where a budding style icon likes to shop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This interview was conducted in French <span class=\"french\">(blue text below)<\/span> and translated to English.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\" style=\"font-size:22px;\">La styliste Francaise Melanie Huynh est une des figure de l&#8217;industrie la plus photographi\u00c3\u00a9e. Son style inimitable et toujours \u00c3\u00a0 la pointe de la mode en ont fait une des femmes les plus suivie sur les blogs de street style, mais c&#8217;est son travail remarquable pour Vogue Paris et sur les d\u00c3\u00a9fil\u00c3\u00a9s de designers tel que Joseph Altuzarra qui continue d&#8217;attirer l&#8217;attention des fans de la mode.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\" style=\"font-size:22px;\">Ayant eu le plaisir de rencontrer Melanie, qui est tout aussi charmante en personne qu&#8217;elle en a l&#8217;aire dans ses multiples photos sur les blogs de street style, je l&#8217;interview sur son style, sa carri\u00c3\u00a8re et o\u00c3\u00b9 une starlette de la mode pr\u00c3\u00a9f\u00c3\u00a8re aller faire ses achats.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>1. How did you get your start in the industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since my youngest age I have always been passionate about fashion, I have always collected fashion magazines, so it was natural for me to study fashion design. I started by working for fashion houses like Margiela before transitioning to publishing.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\"><strong>1. Comment as tu demarr\u00c3\u00a9 ta carri\u00c3\u00a8re dans l&#8217;industrie?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">Depuis toute petite j&#8217;ai toujours \u00c3\u00a9t\u00c3\u00a9 passionn\u00c3\u00a9e par la mode, j&#8217;ai toujours v\u00c3\u00a9cu collectionner les magazines de mode c&#8217;est donc naturellement que j&#8217;ai fait des \u00c3\u00a9tudes de mod\u00c3\u00a9lisme. J&#8217;ai commenc\u00c3\u00a9 par travailler dans des maisons comme Margiela, avant de m&#8217;orienter vers la presse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. What are your inspirations and the references you always come back to in your work?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have many references! I can be inspired by a film, a book, a show, etc\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 but more frequently I find inspiration in a muse or icon. Many women inspire me but I mostly trust my instincts and try to feel the current trends.<br \/>\nI am inspired by influential women who defined their generation: Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve, Jane Birkin, Romy Schneider, Marilyn Monroe, Kate Moss\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 and also by the greatest photographer&#8217;s vision like Helmut Newton or Guy Bourdin\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 and from creators like YSL or Chanel.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\"><strong>2. Quelles sont tes inspirations et les references auxquelles tu retournes toujours dans ton travail?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">Mes r\u00c3\u00a9f\u00c3\u00a9rences sont nombreuses ! Je peux etre inspir\u00c3\u00a9e par un film, un livre , un show etc&#8230;&#8230; mais le plus souvent je suis inspir\u00c3\u00a9e par des muses ou ic\u00c3\u00b4nes. What do you think of the phenomenon of the star-stylists, and the attention that your personal style gets on the street style blogs?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the democratizing influence of the internet and films like &#8220;The devil wears Prada&#8221; the biggest designers and editors in chief have become stars, several years ago no one was aware of their work.<br \/>\nFashion now reaches a large audience and many young girls dream of expressing their ideas and sense of style by working in fashion. It seems to me that being a stylist is perceived as being more accessible than being a model, and especially more influential. Even if fashion shoots are the result of team work, the stylists are defining their own signature style while they were fairly unknown until recently. There are books on the great photographers, makeup artists, hair stylists, but on fashion stylists it is quite rare.<\/p>\n<p>I am quite surprised that I have been part of this phenomenon, even if in a small part. I love fashion and styling, and I am delighted if my personal style is appreciated. <\/p>\n<p>I love the street style blogs and I think they revolutionized the fashion industry, especially the pioneer Scott Schuman. I greatly admire the work of Tommy Ton and Garance Dor\u00c3\u00a9.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\"><strong>3. Que penses tu du fait que les stylistes deviennent eux meme des stars et l&#8217;attention qui est port\u00c3\u00a9e a ton style personel sur les street-style blogs?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">Avec la d\u00c3\u00a9mocratisation d&#8217;internet et des films comme &#8220;Le diable s&#8217;habille en Prada&#8221;, les plus grandes stylistes et r\u00c3\u00a9dactrices en chef sont consid\u00c3\u00a9r\u00c3\u00a9es comme des stars, il y a encore quelques ann\u00c3\u00a9es, personne ne connaissait leur travail.<br \/>\nAujourd&#8217;hui, la mode touche un large public et beaucoup de jeunes filles r\u00c3\u00aavent de pouvoir exprimer leurs id\u00c3\u00a9es et leur style en travaillant dans ce milieu. Il me semble que le poste de styliste leur para\u00c3\u00aet plus &#8220;accessible&#8221; que celui de mannequin, et surtout plus influent. M\u00c3\u00aame si les s\u00c3\u00a9ances de mode sont le fruit d&#8217;un travail d&#8217;\u00c3\u00a9quipe, les stylistes y marquent v\u00c3\u00a9ritablement leurs empreintes et pourtant elles \u00c3\u00a9taient jusqu&#8217;ici inconnues. Il y a des livres sur les grands photographes, maquilleurs, coiffeurs mais sur les styliste de mode, c&#8217;est assez rare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">Je suis assez surprise que ce ph\u00c3\u00a9nom\u00c3\u00a8ne me touche, m\u00c3\u00aame dans une moindre mesure. J&#8217;aime la mode et la mettre en sc\u00c3\u00a8ne, et si mon style pla\u00c3\u00aet, j&#8217;en suis ravie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">J&#8217;adore les street style blogs et je pense qu&#8217;ils ont r\u00c3\u00a9volutionn\u00c3\u00a9 le monde de la mode surtout le pionnier Scott Schuman. Je suis tr\u00c3\u00a8s admirative du travail de Tommy Ton et Garance Dor\u00c3\u00a9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>4. What was your most memorable work experience?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Working at Vogue Paris with Carine Roitfeld, the greatest source of inspiration!<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\"><strong>4. Quelle a ete ton experience professionelle la plus memorable?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">Travailler au Vogue Paris aupr\u00c3\u00a8s de Carine Roitfeld, la plus grande des sources d&#8217;inspiration!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. As a stylist who works with clients both in Paris and NY which are your favorite stores in each city?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Paris: Maria Luisa, Colette, Balenciaga, C\u00c3\u00a9line, Alaia chaussures, Isabel Marant, but I also like visiting less expensive stores like Zara or H&#038;M to mix it up.<br \/>\nNew York: Barneys, Opening Ceremony, Phi (now unfortunately closed), Tsubi, Topshop, Urban Outfitters<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\"><strong>5. En tant que styliste qui travaille avec des clients autant a Paris qu&#8217;a NY, quels sont tes magasins favoris dans chaque ville?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">Paris: Maria Luisa, Colette, Balenciaga,C\u00c3\u00a9line, Alaia chaussures, Isabel Marant mais j&#8217;aime aussi aller dans des magasins moins chers comme Zara ou H&#038;m pour mixer.<br \/>\nNew York: Barneys, Opening Ceremony, Phi (malheuresement maintenant ferm\u00c3\u00a9), Tsubi, Topshop, Urban Outfitters<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>6. What were your favorite collections this season?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MiuMiu, Prada, Rick Owens, Balenciaga, C\u00c3\u00a9line, YSL, Alexander Wang, Jil Sander, Isabel Marant, Christopher Kane and of course Altuzarra.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\"><strong>6. Quelles etaient tes collections favorites cette saison?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">MiuMiu, Prada, Rick Owens, Balenciaga, C\u00c3\u00a9line, YSL, Alexander Wang, Jil Sander, Isabel Marant, Christopher Kane et bien sur Altuzarra<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>7. What trends from the latest collections do you find the most interesting?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A lot of retro 60&#8217;s, 70&#8217;s. Also a return to femininity and elegance: with voluptuous models (real women proud of their bodies) and top models on the runway! There was also a lot of minimalism, more classical shapes. Less exuberant shows for fashion shoots but a lot of beautiful pieces to buy.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\"><strong>7. Selon toi quelles sont les tendances les plus interessantes a ressortir des dernieres collections?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"french\">Beaucoup de retro tr\u00c3\u00a8s 60, 70&#8217;s. Ainsi qu&#8217; un grand retour \u00c3\u00a0 la f\u00c3\u00a9minit\u00c3\u00a9 et l&#8217;\u00c3\u00a9l\u00c3\u00a9gance: avec des mannequins voluptueuses ( des vraies femmes fi\u00c3\u00a8rent de leurs formes) et des tops models sur les runway! Il y avait aussi  beaucoup de minimalisme, des silhouettes plus classiques.
