Sara Ziff Files Lawsuit Against Former Harvey Weinstein Associate Fabrizio Lombardo<\/strong>
\nSara Ziff<\/a>, former model and founder of the Model Alliance, filed a lawsuit on April 6th in the New York State Supreme Court, accusing Fabrizio Lombardo of rape. Lombardo, former head of Miramax in Italy and a close associate of Harvey Weinstein, is alleged to have assaulted Ziff in a New York City hotel in 2001 when she was 19, according to The New York Times. Ziff is suing Lombardo, as well as Weinstein, Disney, and its divisions Buena Vista and Miramax, for abuse and negligence under the Adult Survivors Act (ASA). The ASA, which was passed in May 2022, allows adult sexual assault survivors to sue their abusers no matter how long ago the abuse occurred, with a one-time, one-year look-back window. Survivors can file a civil case against their abuser and institutions until November 23, 2023. Although Ziff has played a significant role in helping others come forward about their experiences of sexual abuse and even created a helpline for survivors at the Model Alliance, this is the first time she has spoken publicly about her own experience. This is also the first time Lombardo has been accused of sexual assault in a court of law, despite his name being mentioned in the sexual harassment class action suit brought against the Weinstein Company and related entities in October 2018. Ziff expressed her feelings on the lack of accountability for abusers, stating, “I’ve always been frustrated by the fact that those people seem to escape any kind of accountability.” When the ASA was passed, she saw a “real sense of possibility that perhaps we could do something about what happened, even if it happened a very long time ago.” [NYT<\/a>]<\/p>\n
