Hanae Mori Dies at 96<\/strong>
\nJapanese designer, costumer and couturier Hanae Mori<\/a> passed away on August 11th in Tokyo at the age of 96. Mori was the first Japanese designer to show in New York in 1965 and the first female Asian couturier to join the ranks of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in 1977, thanks in part to the influence of Pierre Cardin. The designer founded her eponymous brand in 1951 in Tokyo, then began showing couture in Paris two decades later, before finally retiring after presenting her final couture collection in Fall 2004. In the late \u201970s, her family signed a license with Fairchild Media to launch WWD Japan, which continues to publish. WWD<\/a> reports her death was revealed on Thursday by Japanese broadcaster NHK, a funeral was already held with close relatives, and a farewell party will be held in the coming days.<\/p>\n
