Being part of an iconic music video is not how every cover girl starts out, but for Emily Ratajkowski<\/a>\u00a0(Ford Models<\/a>)\u00a0 it is an excellent place to begin. Swinging by the MDC offices, LA bred Emily talks\u00a0about moving to New York and balancing her new found fame with a serious drive to become fashion’s next bombshell.<\/p>\n

Interview by Kristen Bolt<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

MDC:<\/strong> Where were you born and what was your pre-model life like?<\/p>\n

Emily: <\/strong>I was born in London and moved to LA when I was five. I was an only child and my parents are academics. We traveled to Mallorca and Ireland (where my parents currently reside) many times. I was brought up with more of a European sensibility when it came to nudity and celebrating the body as a work of art.<\/p>\n

MDC:<\/strong> Your proportions are not that of a standard fashion model. How has this affected your career?<\/p>\n

Emily:<\/strong> At first the height thing, I am 5’7″, made it hard to break into the industry. But I think things have changed and it’s good to be different. Different makes you stand out and I embrace my height. You have to be confident about who you are and what you bring to the table- the industry embraces confidence.<\/p>\n

MDC:<\/strong> Do you have any advice to shorter models- Kate Moss is short!<\/p>\n

Emily:<\/strong> There have been so many amazing models that have been short. It’s about practice and learning the angles of your body. I am proportionate so it is easier for me to elongate.<\/p>\n

MD:<\/strong> What has been one of your favorite career experiences in the past year?<\/p>\n

Emily:<\/strong> Shooting with Bruce Weber for CR Fashion Book was amazing. I was not scheduled for the cover, but Carine loved the shot and made it the cover. Very exciting to work with such talented people. I have a lot coming up in both print and acting- I can’t reveal them yet but I’m very excited about the direction my career has taken. I am really excited to be based in NY now, because it is so different from the LA fashion scene. Ford is my main agency.<\/p>\n
