Even the weather cooperated for Simon Spurr’s Spring 2011 show on Sunday\u2014in its own way. Sure, the rain and wind were an annoyance, but once the models started coming down the catwalk, there they were, in their hands: full-length umbrellas, tightly wrapped and carried with swagger. A neon light peered out from the back of the runway as if ensconced in a Lucio Fontana gash, a symbol of strength carefully contained. Spurr showed many examples of the kind of slick tailoring that has made him a favorite of the bold and the powerful. He introduced bits and pieces in bright colors, from a yellow overcoat to a striped lilac suit, interspersed among a collection that was otherwise largely gray, black, and shades of neutral. But if the majority of the colors tended towards the unobtrusive, the cuts stood out. Several pairs of pants were aggressively slim, and jackets and blazers\u2014including a gorgeous, buttery burgundy suede jacket\u2014sat close to the body. The final series of slick suits looked effortlessly sharpand unrelentingly cool. The clothes made a commanding statement, definitely not for the faint-of-heart.<\/div>\n
