Peter Hawkings Exits Tom Ford<\/strong>
\nThe game of creative director musical chairs continues as Peter Hawkings<\/a> exits Tom Ford<\/a>. Hawkings debuted his first collection as the brand’s creative director last September during Milan Fashion Week. According to WWD, a source mentioned that there was “no specific element that triggered” Hawkings’ departure, but rather a combination of reasons, including a “lack of chemistry” with the designer\u2019s team. Hawkings’ career with Tom Ford began in 1998 when he worked as a menswear design assistant at Gucci, eventually rising to senior men’s designer. He joined Ford in 2006 to help launch the brand’s eponymous label, overseeing menswear design and production, and later expanding into accessories like eyewear, bags, shoes, and jewelry. Hawkings became the senior vice president of Tom Ford menswear and was chosen by Ford as his successor, with Ford praising him as “an incredibly talented leader with tremendous industry experience.” Hawkings’ collections received mixed reviews, some critics described them as restrained and “not daring enough.” The future of the brand under the Ermenegildo Zegna Group, which oversees Tom Ford\u2019s fashion business, remains a topic of interest. Karen Harvey, CEO of her eponymous advisory services and executive search firm, suggested that Zegna might recognize that not all menswear creative directors seamlessly transition into women’s fashion and hinted that appointing a female creative director could strengthen the brand’s commitment to women’s empowerment.
