Issey Miyake Passes at 84<\/strong>
\nIssey Miyake<\/a>, the first Japanese designer to ever show in Paris, passed away on Friday, August 5th in Tokyo at 84. Miyake was known as the \u201cprince of pleats\u201d due to his cutting-edge designs and ability to use computer technology in weaving to create \u201capparel meant to celebrate the human body.\u201d Miyake was not only known for pleats but also for his innovative Bao Bao bag made of acrylic triangles and for making Apple\u2019s co-founder Steve Job\u2019s ubiquitous uniform, the black turtleneck. Miyake, who was caught in the aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima at age 7, wrote in the New York Times in 2008, \u201dI prefer to think of things that can be created, not destroyed, and that bring beauty and joy.\u201d [NYT<\/a>]<\/p>\n
