If you’ve ever wanted to see Gaultier next to Pius IX, fashion devotees you’re in luck. Fresh off a cameo in Ocean’s 8 latest trailer<\/a>, the first Monday in May brings the annual Met Gala festivities and this year’s theme is purely divine. The Costume Institute’s Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination<\/a> conceptualizes the exchange between Catholicism, devout inspiration in art, and the fashion industry’s ornate interpretation of religious iconography. Hosted in the hallowed halls of the Met’s Byzantine Gallery and the Medieval Sculpture Hall, Anna Wintour Costume Center, and the Met Cloisters, intricately embroidered and voluminous pieces from Versace<\/a>, Jean Paul Gaultier<\/a>, Thierry Mugler<\/a>, Valentino<\/a>, Riccardo Tisci<\/a>, and many more stood proudily next to apostolic selections donated to from the Vatican, many for the first time out of Vatican City. <\/p>\n
