American Classics

What speaks more to American style than well-made basics with a distinct straightforward appeal? Jack Spade, a line of good quality messenger, utility bags and other leather goods, has teamed up with Selima Salaun, the purveyor of stylish eyewear design and shop owner of Selima Optique, to unearth a chic and sporty men’s sunglass collection which just hit stores. The styles are all inspired by cultural influences from film, music and movers and shakers of our time. For instance, the Matt shades is a take on Aristotle Onassis’s rich, luxurious existence as a shipping mogul who always dressed to impress in a simple, elegant manner all the while sporting boxy wraparound frames – the perfect accessory for lounging on his yacht. Or my fave: the Tim, inspired by the Richard Hell’s (of the Voidoids) 1977 album, Bland Generation, smoky grey frames with gradient green lens gives it’s wearer instant renegade coolness – $275.
