Summer is in full swing here in NYC and for top models that means a well deserved break from the rigors of fashion and time to enjoy the best of what the city has to offer. We stopped by Modellounge x Microsoft’s #ModelSummerHangout on the rooftop of the Gansevoort to see how some of our favorite beauties are spending their off time.
Joan Smalls: I’m actually arranging everything during summer since it’s my time off to make it more of a personal summer. So I go to appointments, have meetings, do everything that I have to do and then hopefully plan my vacation! Once that’s finished then you kick start work again. Right now is nice, everyone’s starting to get that summer feeling where things are slowing down and everybody’s just more relaxed. I’m enjoying it. I had my birthday last week and that was fun. I went bowling, got to do the really chill things that you don’t normally get to do. Even though we’re based in New York we’re always traveling so you never get to enjoy your city, so it’s nice to be able to do normal things once in a while.
Jacquelyn Jablonski : My summer’s going good. I guess work is kind of finally dwindling down. I’m trying to figure out August; I still don’t have plans. Yes I know it’s crazy; it’s like in a week! But I did the same thing last year, planned my vacation in one week and went to Hawaii for two weeks and it turned out fine so hopefully I’m okay. I might go to Thailand, that’s an option, or just bounce around Europe because I hear from friends going to different places and maybe just hang over there.
Kate Kondas: I was back home in June, because there was the Hungarian model contest, and then I had to stay home because I had my final exams in high school. After I graduated, it was on Friday and then I flew here on Sunday. I have some jobs but in the meantime I enjoy the weather when I have free time. I’m going to stay here until the 17th of August I believe and then go back home because I’m still going to have some exams, and then come back again for fashion week and do New York, London, Milan, and Paris.
Marina Nery: I just came back from Paris a week ago, and it’s so hot here, but it’s nice. I prefer hot to cold! It’s my second time here at Modellounge and I really like it. It is fun to just do activities and to relax and get a manicure or pedicure.
Pauline Hoarau : My summer’s going really great. I just arrived in New York 5 days ago so I’m enjoying the summer here. It is really nice to have a place like this to hang out. You see all the models and you can eat and drink and have fun. It’s very hot but I’m used to the heat! I’m from Reunion Islands next to Madagascar, it’s a French island.
Joline Braun: My summer is great. I really like it in New York. I like walking. You’d think walking is not fun but in New York it’s so fun because every time you walk you see something different. People complain about the heat but I’m a little used to it because I’m from the Caribbean, and that’s really hot as well, but what I miss is the wind, because there isn’t that much wind here now. Still I really love New York so far!
