As a steel guitar plucked out the theme to “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” Steven Cox and Daniel Silver—collectively known as Duckie Brown—sent out their second collection for Perry Ellis, a clean and satisfying outing that combined the formers’ innovative notions of proportions and pattern to the latter’s signature style. After Cox and Silver stripped down their own collection a few days earlier, it was easy to find a similar simplicity to their pieces for Perry Ellis, as in the clean gray of Arthur Gosse’s slim suit or the smooth cut of Malcolm de Ruiter’s trenchcoat. There was a twist on the Perry Ellis paisley, appearing here on Alexander Beck’s trim trousers and Clément Chabernaud’s slope-shouldered varsity jacket. The pair also played with a camouflage print, adding a gritty darkness to Kristoffer Hasslevall’s poncho and Tomek Szalanski’s jacket. There were plenty of hidden nuances to the collection, as Cox and Silver toyed with materials and shapes in a way that Ellis himself, who was known for injecting his work with an enduring playfulness, would have appreciated. The overall feel was a bit woodsy (just like at Patrik Ervell a few days earlier), in the grassy prints, in the shades of green worn by Rutger Schoone and Robert Laby, in the richly verdant backdrop. Pulling double duty clearly does Cox and Silver well.
