For Fall 2013, General Idea designer Bumsuk Choi found inspiration in the wild mountains of Tibet, specifically the nomads photographed by Steve McCurry for his book The Path to Buddha: A Tibetan Pilgrimage. Those who expected prayer flags or saffron robes, however, would be guilty of over-literalism. Rather, Choi pulled from the idea of personal journeys, and his collection had a sharp feel of constant motion. The season’s Bauhaus trend continued in the bright color blocking, as in Charlie Westerberg’s khaki-navy-scarlet overcoat, or Yannick Abrath’s oversized sweatshirt in white and two shades of blue. There was a sporty feel to Malcolm de Ruiter’s quilted overcoat and the electric blue of Aiden Andrews’ jacket. Sung Jin Park’s bouclĂ© wool jacket was a a particular standout, its seams and outline traced in a shock of royal blue, the perfect protection for a trip into the unknown.
