Sandy Relief

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s destruction, millions on the East Coast have been left without food, shelter or power. Though the worst of the bad weather has passed, there are still numerous people in need of assistance. There are a myriad of ways for you to help out; whether that means donating funds, or something as simple as giving a little bit of your time. Our hearts are with everyone affected by Sandy, so here are some great ways you can pitch in and give back during this time of need.

Volunteer – Pitch in around your community and help those around you, apply to lend a hand to an organization like New York Cares ,  The Red Cross or the New York Food Bank.

Give Blood – As a result of the hurricane, the blood supply has dwindled. Call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit Red Cross.org to schedule a blood and platelet donation.

Support Feeding America as they help to provide thousands of pounds of food and water to hurricane victims. Donate to Feeding America here.

Support AmeriCares as they distribute relief supplies and first aid kits to those in need. Donate to AmeriCares here.

Remember when donating, always be careful of who you’re giving money to. Charity Navigator provides a good tipsheet on how to avoid the unscrupulous while trying to give back.

Most importantly, stay safe and stay informed during this time period. The New York Times’ live updates on the situation are especially helpful.

On a lighter note, you may have noticed that Models.com was down for the past two days due to the after effects of the hurricane. We’d like to thank you all for your patience and kind words during this time.
