For Fall 2012, the German designer Robert Geller found inspiration in the post-punk band The Sound, turning to the brooding melancholy that marked English style in the ’80s with a collection that piled on the layers. The models stomped down a dirt runway in pieces that toyed with fit and proportion, with a boxy overcoat and skin-tight leather pants followed by a pea coat tucked into jodhpurs followed by a gorgeous green anorak. There was a smart range of items in a dusty palette of gray, marigold, and army, from short-sleeve hoodies to long polka-dot shirts. Mesh, a favorite of Geller’s, showed up in a number of shirts and tank tops, an echo of seasons past that this time around fit in nicely with this week’s athletics trend.
