Hanae Mori Passes, Linda is Back, and more news you missed

Hanae Mori Dies at 96
Japanese designer, costumer and couturier Hanae Mori passed away on August 11th in Tokyo at the age of 96. Mori was the first Japanese designer to show in New York in 1965 and the first female Asian couturier to join the ranks of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in 1977, thanks in part to the influence of Pierre Cardin. The designer founded her eponymous brand in 1951 in Tokyo, then began showing couture in Paris two decades later, before finally retiring after presenting her final couture collection in Fall 2004. In the late ’70s, her family signed a license with Fairchild Media to launch WWD Japan, which continues to publish. WWD reports her death was revealed on Thursday by Japanese broadcaster NHK, a funeral was already held with close relatives, and a farewell party will be held in the coming days.

The Return of Linda Evangelista
After five years out of the spotlight, supermodel Linda Evangelista made a welcomed return to newsstands for the September issue of British Vogue. Styled by editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, shot by Steven Meisel, with Guido, Pat, and Jin Soon on beauty, Linda is swaddled in top couture creations from Fendi, Chanel, and Alexandre Vauthier. The supermodel speaks candidly to the British publication on why she has notably kept out of the spotlight due to a botched CoolSculpting procedure that has now been settled with CoolSculpting’s parent company. Speaking on what the future holds Evangelista tells Vogue, “I miss my work so much, but honestly, what can I do? It isn’t going to be easy. You’re not going to see me in a swimsuit, that’s for sure. It’s going to be difficult to find jobs with things protruding from me; without retouching, or squeezing into things, or taping things or compressing or tricking.” [VOGUE]
