Loisida Resort 23 Debuts at The Box
This week, the Lower East Side got a taste of whimsical fancy with a Stepford Wives twist at the debut of Loisida at burlesque jaunt, The Box. The phonetic name play on the downtown LES neighborhood (derived from the Nuyorican pronunciation of “Lower East Side”) comes from the minds of founding creative directors Veronika Vilim and Carson Lovett, who together will roll out the collection as both ready-to-wear and made-to-order. “We wrote an alternate ending to the movie where [Joanna Eberhart] escapes and she’s able to run free and liberate herself in color, in bliss, and in nature unfiltered,” Lovett describes. “We wanted a lot of bright colors because we wanted to instill our energy and outlook on life into something tangible.” When it came to the casting, Vilim spent time invoking the sensual spirit of liberated freedom in each model. “I was thinking of all my friends who are performers as I really wanted to have people who could embody this story.” Cast by Alexandra Antonova, models rocked panniered hips, corsets, and plenty of lace with a colorful performance from Ashley Smith, Cici Tamez, Sonia Okumu, Sofia Tesmenitskaya and more.
