LVMH Prize Announces Semifinalists, LFW Begins, and more of the news you missed

London Fashion Week Begins
After a mostly digital presentation for F/W 21, London Fashion Week begins today through Tuesday, the 22nd for F/W 22. Similar to NYFW, more established brands like Burberry, Victoria Beckham, JW Anderson, and Christopher Kane are opting to skip the five-day event and present their new collections off-season. Simone Rocha, Supriya Lele, Vivienne Westwood, Nicholas Daley, among other designers, will still be showcasing their new collections. Referring to the absence of certain designers, Sarah Mower, the British Fashion Council’s ambassador said, “This is a particularly rich and exciting moment in terms of new talent emerging from London, and increasingly the city is developing a diverse and relevant pool of creatives you can see being in high demand for hirings and collaborations across the industry.” [Vogue]

The LVMH Prize Reveal 2022 Semifinalists
With more than 1,900 applicants, the prestigious LVMH prize announced its 20 semifinalists for young fashion designers around the globe. The emerging designers will present their collections during Paris Fashion Week in a showroom from March 4th-5th, where industry experts including Pierre M’Pele, Julia Sarr-Jamois, and Eugénie Trochu will select the eight finalists. The voting will then open to the public from March 4th-9th. Some of the semifinalists include British duo KNWLS, Nigerian brand Tokyo James, and Spanish brand Palomo Spain. When commenting on the semi-finalists Delphine Arnault, Executive Vice President for LVHM said, “they all place eco-responsibility at the heart of their creative approach with the use of recycled materials, upcycling, etc.” [WWD]

Supreme Selects Tremaine Emory as New Creative Director
This week, the founder of Denim Tears, Tremaine Emory was appointed as Supreme’s creative director. This is the first major hire since the brand was acquired for $2.1 billion by VF Corp; founder James Jebbia plans on working closely with Emory to continue building the company’s vision. Emory will still work on Denim Tears and e-retailer No Vacancy Inn on the side. [BoF]

Sofia Jirau Is The First Model With Down Syndrome To Appear in a Victoria’s Secret Campaign
Victoria’s Secret made history with their latest campaign, “The Love Cloud” which features their first-ever model with Down Syndrome, Sofia Jirau. The Puerto Rican model took to Instagram to share the exciting news saying, “One day I dreamed of it, I worked on it and today it is a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret, I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome!” The campaign was shot by Zoey Grossman and features VS collective members Adut Akech and Paloma Elsesser. Supermodel Adriana Lima announces the news of her pregnancy with her boyfriend Andre Lemmers in her first ever Tiktok today. While this is her first child with Lemmers, Lima is also a mom to two other daughters, Valentina, 12, and Sienna, 9.

Dara Allen Named Fashion Director of Interview Magazine
Model and stylist Dara Allen announced her new position as the fashion director of Andy Warhol-founded publication, Interview Magazine. Allen let the public know on Instagram with the caption, “the rumors are true, adding a new wig to my collection. Fashion Director of Interview Magazine.”
