Cushnie Closes Doors
Cushnie is the latest fashion brand to fall victim to COVID-19. Carly Cushnie, CEO and Creative Director of Cushnie, decided to shut down her business, writing in a letter to the media, “While my brand has persevered through unending headwinds, the effects of COVID-19 have hurt my business beyond repair, and it is with great sadness that I share Cushnie will be closing its doors.” Originally founded in 2008 with Michelle Ochs as Cushnie et Ochs, Cushnie was one of the few high fashion brands with a Black female designer at the helm. Bazaar’s Bringing the Beats
In a new push for the publication to remain relevant in these hard times, Harper’s Bazaar U.S. has announced the newly created title of Music Director. The position will be held by a different musician each month and is tied to Harper’s Bazaar: The Playlist, a collaboration between the magazine and Apple Music. Each Music Director will create an issue-inspired playlist with tracks by a variety of different artists. The first playlist, curated by Dev Hynes, will be launched alongside the November issue. ELLE’s former Fashion Director on the Plight of White Men
Stylist Kyle Anderson, who has previously been both fashion director at Elle U.S. and accessories editor at Marie Claire U.S., started an online furor over the weekend with a myopic racially-charged post to social media. In the Instagram Story, which was in response to an article about Anna Wintour in The New York Times, Kyle laments on the difficulties now facing white men within the fashion industry, rebuking publications for “firing employees because they are white, especially men.” [The Daily]

The Met Says It’s “About Time”
It’s certainly not normal circumstances to view a new exhibit, yet The Metropolitan Museum of Arts treks on with its yearly Costume Institute thematic exhibit that has already been severely delayed, titled “About Time: Fashion and Duration”. In a quarantined year where time seems out of sync, this year’s theme ironically focuses on timelessness in honor of the museum’s 150th anniversary and will feature 60 looks just like the 60 minutes within an hour. The late PR titan, former co-chairman, and chief strategist of KCD, Ed Filipowski will have a virtual memorial service on November 23rd, by invitation only. Filipowski who passed on January 10th from surgery complications was originally scheduled to have the memorial service for May 1st at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York. [WWD]
