CFDA Announces Black Advisory Board
On September 1st it was announced that designer Tracey Reese and recently appointed CFDA president CaSandra Diggs will serve on the organization’s newly formed Black advisory board. Along with Bozoma Saint John from Netflix and Stacie Henderson from Fashion Tech Connects, the board will focus on creating more opportunities for Black talent within the American fashion industry. It will also be implementing equity and inclusion programs for both the industry and the CFDA itself. Steven Kolb, the co-executive chairman of the CFDA, said in a statement, “These fundamental changes to the organization allow us to bring important perspectives to the fashion industry.” [Vogue]
Instagram’s Eva Chen Returns to Print
Former editor and Instagram’s current director of fashion partnerships Eva Chen has returned to print, however briefly, guest-editing Grazia Italia‘s latest issue. Focusing on freedom of expression and how important it is for traditional media and digital platforms to support one another, Daily Front Row reports Chen said, “I want to dedicate this Grazia issue to everyone on Instagram who, thanks to their courage and strength, are fighting for change. This issue does not celebrate perfection, but rather authenticity. It’s an ode to uniqueness rather than minorities, to the sense of community and kindness.”
Milan’s Green Carpet Fashion Awards Go Digital
The Green Carpet Fashion Awards, a highlight of the Milan Fashion Week schedule, will be going ahead this year—but the attendees will be holograms, according to Livia Firth, who works in partnership with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana to produce the awards. In addition to the ‘grams, incorporated into the event will be a mixture of digital effects, film, and augmented reality. “It almost felt like the Middle Ages in terms of what you can do with technology. Demna Gvasalia Teams Up with Apple Music
Fresh off of donning Cardi B as the face of Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia further expresses his love of music by launching next week a playlist series curated by Balenciaga muses with the first being a whopping 13 hours and coming from Gvasalia himself. Titled Hello, My Name Is Demna, Vogue reports Gvasalia will align special-edition product drops around the release of each playlist.
