Off-White Puts Holes in Fashion Theory

Gigi Hadid, Alek Wek, and Bella Hadid

The show must go on, some restless masochist once said. A prescribed pause didn’t stop Virgil Abloh‘s Spring/Summer 2020 reveal for Off-White, even if the designer was afar in Chicago. Labeled Meteor Strike, the first shooting star in the Centre Pompidou came by way of opener Adut Akech who sporting a crisp, button-up shirtdress with terry-cloth wedged heels, started off a procession of top faces like Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, and Grace Elizabeth all bearing sleek, crater-lidden pieces (the most notable being the “un-functional” $1,665 Meteor Bag). Sprinkled thorughout were four iconic pillars of 90s modeling – Alek Wek, Georgina Grenville, Debra Shaw, and Audrey Marnay all representing a forward shift towards age inclusivity in Paris this season.
