After a year plus of pushing the Thierry Mugler archive, Casey Cadwallader continued to modernize Mugler canon with his heavily-sculpting collection for the new Spring 2020 season. Yes, the exaggerated shoulders, body-con silhouette, molded midriffs, and re-introduction of menswear were the sartorial takeaways but the casting, led by Julia Lange, was the most noteworthy moment of pause. Opened by Bella Hadid, many newly adopted veterans to the Mugler lexicon also walked like Karen Elson and Hanne Gaby Odiele joining muses Debra Shaw, Niko Riam, and Nina Marker for a collection that was exceptionally inclusive of shades, sizes, ages and gender identity – a rare but welcome showing in the city of lights.
