Karen Elson announced as new board member at The Model Alliance
Model Alliance announced this week the election of Super Karen Elson to their Board of Directors. With a celebratory discussion hosted by designer Rachel Comey at her SoHo store, members of the fashion community, including James Scully, Becca McCharen of Chromat, and many more joined Elson and founding director Sara Ziff to discuss a robust new program to eliminate harassment or abuse in the workplace. “I don’t want the young girls coming into this business to enter an unsafe environment,” Elson declared. “I want them to fully know what’s expected of them beforehand. I want them to have protection. I want them to feel power in a very real sense.”

Berluti definitely confirms Kris Van Assche as new creative director
Following news of Haider Ackermann’s rather abrupt exit from Berluti, guesses of Kris Van Assche taking his place were confirmed this week. Assche just left Dior Homme March 19th after 11 years, so the new position keeps him in the LVMH fold. On his Instagram the Belgian designer wrote, “I have always wanted to build bridges between the savoir-faire, the heritage of a house and my clear-cut contemporary vision. Antoine Arnault spoke to me of his ambitions for @BERLUTI and it is with great pleasure that I accept this new challenge which fits perfectly with my own will and vision.” His first collection will be shown at Paris Fashion Week Men’s 2019.

Marc Jacobs takes the knee, proposes in Chipotle

Congratulations are in order as Marc Jacobs proposed to boyfriend–now–fiancé Char Defrancesco via flash mob as seen in a video posted on the iconic American designer’s Instagram yesterday. The event took place in a New York Chipotle as a dancing flash mob acted as the lead-in to Jacobs taking the knee. “Charly Defrancesco will you marry me?” He wrote in the caption that accompanied the video. Defrancesco, Jacobs’ partner in jet setting and who has a line of candles, has made plenty of appearances on the designer’s Instagram and vice versa.

Gosha gone (”as we’ve known it”)
Announced on Instagram Gosha Rubchinskiy ends his eponymous label, “as you’ve known it,” the designer wrote in the post, continuing to say, “We will have no more seasonal collections. Instead, something new is coming.” What exactly new means is left unsaid and up to speculation, but it will certainly be met with lots of buzz cached from the reputation of his popular streetwear that was first presented in 2008.
