Some of the best years of my life, by the way. Anyways, that definitely shocks some! I think people never expect to hear that because the industries are so different from one another.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014 The most interesting thing about your family:<\/strong><br \/>\nMy family definitely has some unique heritage. Being from Goa (India), previously under Portuguese rule, our culture includes a mixture of Indian and Portuguese\/Western traditions. It means attending Catholic weddings in traditional Indian clothing, a mixture of Portuguese and Hindi dialect, and chorizo seasoned with Indian spices. We form our own subculture, different yet still similar to our Indian peers and our Portuguese peers, for that matter, and I love that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014 If you were to choose a song that symbolizes this current phase of your life, what would it be and why?<\/strong><br \/>\nReturn of the Mack, 24\/7, every phase of life. I&#8217;m a 2nd year undergraduate Natural Scientist at the University of Cambridge, and the concentration of intelligence, care, and talent in this university is overwhelming. I feel like an intellectual pretender, but no longer pretend to be someone I am not. &#8220;But feel younger than when I \\\\ Pretended to know everything.&#8221;  &#8211; Although I have matured at university, I am more and more aware of what I don&#8217;t know. I have become better at questioning everything, as any good scientist should, but with that, I am realizing how much I don&#8217;t know. I often feel like I pretend to be intelligent because how can I be when I know a tiny fraction of reality.<br \/>\n&#8220;I&#8217;m glad I stayed myself.&#8221; &#8211; I am an authentically enthusiastic and caring person. The past pretending that I used to do was wanting &#8220;to be someone else&#8221; &#8211; someone who I perceived as more socially desirable. But as Alice Phoebe Lou wrote, &#8220;I am more than my defences \\\\ I&#8217;ll break them all down&#8221;. I am in the process of unlearning the defence mechanisms that hid my true personality from others to evade criticism. I am glad to be embracing a more authentic version of myself despite the consistent imposter syndrome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014 An issue or cause you are passionate about:<\/strong><br \/>\nOctober has brought solemn news in the climate space. 1.5 degrees, the target outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement is going to be surpassed, and Exeter&#8217;s global tipping point declared that coral reefs have officially passed their tipping point. Coral bleaching will now be irreversible. Climate change influences all aspects of global and social systems. I engage a lot in promoting change within my university, from decarbonisation, divestment from fossil fuels, and being on the Woodland Trust Youth Council. Despite the doom, having a vision for a better future (and working on it) keeps me sane.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014 What&#8217;s a favorite book\/movie\/TV show, and why do you love it?<\/strong><br \/>\nI invited Joycelyn Longdon, author of Natural Connection, to speak at Newnham in March, before her book&#8217;s launch date. Joycelyn spoke with such compassion about the indigenous community that her research concerns. Her book exudes so much wisdom and explores the role of love, theory, grief, and anger in social movements. Specifically, learning from indigenous and marginalized communities. But when I first knew myself that I wanted to become a model after getting my interest up, I sent a DM to my now mother agency at 19, and everything went pretty fast from there. It&#8217;s all about right timing and a person\/agent to believe in you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014 The most interesting thing about your family:<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen it comes to talents, not one of us has the ability to sing, and the whole bloodline is probably tone deaf, but one thing is for sure: we can serve face one way or the other. The majority of my family has posed as a model one or many times, some jobs bigger than others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014 Share a bit about your background and upbringing.<\/strong><br \/>\nI&#8217;m (ethnicity-wise) from three countries: Sweden, Sierra Leone and Afghanistan. My mom is from Sweden and Sierra Leone, and my biological father is from Afghanistan. I grew up with my one-year-older brother and single mother, no father in the picture, and god, how much my brother and I fought growing up! I grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, which I have a love-hate kind of relationship with.
