interview

Name:
Daan Johannes Wilhelmus Bach – or just Daan Bach.

Agency:
My mother agency is Le Management (Copenhagen) in Denmark

Age:
I am currently 19 years old.

Height:
I am actually not entirely sure how tall I am. I bet somewhere around the 190 mark – centimeters, obviously.

Instagram:
@daanbach

Place of Origin:
I am raised and grown up in the wilderness of Denmark. In this part of Denmark, the only way to achieve your daily nutrition is by hunting the local forests. A survival instinct is key.

Ethnic Origin:
I am actually Dutch and born in The Netherlands. I lived in Holland for 2 years after my birth, and then moved on to Denmark with my family, where we have been hapbirth signving ever since.

Birthsign:
I just managed to figure out, via Google, that my birthsign is Libra, as my birthday is on the 2nd of October.

How discovered:
My good friend and I decided to skip class, to go out for some Christmas shopping in a “bigger” town in Denmark called Århus. Eventually, we decided to get back home, and since my friend always tends to have an extremely relaxed approach to the concept of time, we suddenly discovered that we had to run to get to the train in time. Out of nowhere, this lady magically jumped out in front of me – and since my friend and I were in a major rush, I purposely tried to avoid her, by executing a perfect jump around her. The next thing was that she caught me by grabbing my jacket and told me that she was a model scout for Le Management. We started talking and she told me that she would love it if I could come to the agency for a meeting some day. A strange thing was, that on the day I got scouted, I had too(!) long hair with curls all over the place, and since there was a massive wind, just blasting into my face (hurray for the tropical climate of Denmark), my hair was all over my face and I – still to this day – really wonder how she even got a glimpse of my face.

What was your first modeling job?
My first modeling job was as an exclusive for the Versace SS17 show. When I did this show, I had been modeling for about 4 months, and this was my very first job. I had absolutely no idea of how this industry worked and I couldn’t understand why a massive brand like that would use my face to show off their sick clothes. And what was this ”exclusive” thing???

Favorite things:
I absolutely love playing football/soccer. However, I really doubt it that my agents are too keen on me playing football, as I have suffered multiple unfortunate injuries that have kept me out of the modeling game for periods haha. Otherwise, I obviously enjoy spending time with my family and my local dudes.

What are you listening to at the moment?
I have a very diverse taste of music and there is really no consistency to what I listen to. I tend to use music to get me in a certain mood. And, at this very moment, I really miss summer and the long nights, so therefore, I listen a lot to Kygo and just generally some good ol’ classics – from before my time, really.

Favorite movie, tv show:
Favourite movie has to be The Shawshank Redemption or Forrest Gump. Besides that, I really like Interstellar, Arrival, The Theory of Everything or The Wolf of Wall Street. Perhaps some others as well, but I can’t remember them right now.

Favorite designer, fragrance or beauty product:
I think I have developed a love for Versace’s clothes, during my time working with them. I’d also definitely mention Giorgio Armani as well. Always classy and looking slick af.

What were you doing before modeling?
I was studying before I was modeling and I actually still study. I took upon the challenge of trying to balance my study with modeling. Tough at times, but I’ve endured for almost 2 years now and I’ll hopefully graduate my study in less than 4 months ;-)

What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
After my graduation this summer, I would honestly be really lost. I would most certainly try hard to get a job somewhere, with the purpose of eventually funding a journey across the world and then perhaps back to uni.

What’s something uncool that you love anyway?
Me and my friends can have some extremely loud, “violent” and competitive games of Uno. Guess who always wins ;)))

Favorite modeling experience so far?
It’s a tough decision. It’s either when Lefties brought me and my good friend Justin to the absolutely fantastic Bahamas and we did a swimwear campaign together. Or all the times I have walked for Versace. Not only because I’ve gotten some extremely good friends through that, but also because their shows are always so awesome, and the fact that you get so emotionally hyped when you walk out on that stage with such cool clothes.

What’s the best thing about your hometown/country?
I love almost everything about Denmark. It is so calm and nice and I think the humour here is great. For me, personally, it’s a bit difficult to say anything negative about the country. The only thing probably has to be the weather. Not a fan of the long winters.

Which brand would you really love to model for?
When I first became a model, I thought that it’d be so awesome, if I could just do something for either Giorgio Armani or Versace – just once, and then I’d be forever happy and proud. As fortunate as I am, I have somehow already achieved this, so I have to find some new dreams. And, in that case, another dream would probably be that my beard game can develop a notch, so I can be the next dude in that Giorgio Armani fragrance campaign hahaha

Place you would love to visit:
Right now; The Maldives or some other relaxing place. I could really use a chill week, just doing absolutely nothing. Usually, I’d probably choose something filled with a bit more activity or an exotic place that I’d be able to explore with my best friends.

Currently you’re obsessed with/about:
I currently listen a lot to a very clever psychologist named Jordan Peterson – via podcasts. Some of the things he says really amazes me. He tends to tear down very abstract subjects into easily “consumable” pieces for the listener – and he always does it with a very interesting perspective. Go ahead and Google him if that sounds interesting.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Fact is, the people I’m surrounded don’t tend to fill me in with good advice. Maybe it’s time to find some new friends? Just be yourself, stay cool and be open-minded.
