— One thing people may be surprised to find out about you:
About a year ago, I graduated from university with a Master’s in Biomedical Science. Some of the best years of my life, by the way. Anyways, that definitely shocks some! I think people never expect to hear that because the industries are so different from one another.
— The most interesting thing about your family:
My family definitely has some unique heritage. Being from Goa (India), previously under Portuguese rule, our culture includes a mixture of Indian and Portuguese/Western traditions. It means attending Catholic weddings in traditional Indian clothing, a mixture of Portuguese and Hindi dialect, and chorizo seasoned with Indian spices. We form our own subculture, different yet still similar to our Indian peers and our Portuguese peers, for that matter, and I love that.

Pretender by Alice Phoebe Lou. I’m a 2nd year undergraduate Natural Scientist at the University of Cambridge, and the concentration of intelligence, care, and talent in this university is overwhelming. I feel like an intellectual pretender, but no longer pretend to be someone I am not. “But feel younger than when I \\ Pretended to know everything.” – Although I have matured at university, I am more and more aware of what I don’t know. I have become better at questioning everything, as any good scientist should, but with that, I am realizing how much I don’t know. I often feel like I pretend to be intelligent because how can I be when I know a tiny fraction of reality.
“I’m glad I stayed myself.” – I am an authentically enthusiastic and caring person. The past pretending that I used to do was wanting “to be someone else” – someone who I perceived as more socially desirable. But as Alice Phoebe Lou wrote, “I am more than my defences \\ I’ll break them all down”. I am in the process of unlearning the defence mechanisms that hid my true personality from others to evade criticism. I am glad to be embracing a more authentic version of myself despite the consistent imposter syndrome.
— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
October has brought solemn news in the climate space. 1.5 degrees, the target outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement is going to be surpassed, and Exeter’s global tipping point declared that coral reefs have officially passed their tipping point. Coral bleaching will now be irreversible. Climate change influences all aspects of global and social systems. I engage a lot in promoting change within my university, from decarbonisation, divestment from fossil fuels, and being on the Woodland Trust Youth Council. Despite the doom, having a vision for a better future (and working on it) keeps me sane.
— What’s a favorite book/movie/TV show, and why do you love it?
I invited Joycelyn Longdon, author of Natural Connection, to speak at Newnham in March, before her book’s launch date. Joycelyn spoke with such compassion about the indigenous community that her research concerns. Her book exudes so much wisdom and explores the role of love, theory, grief, and anger in social movements. Specifically, learning from indigenous and marginalized communities. She is just such a soft presence, and the book ties together an entangled mess of human emotions into a very cohesive and empowering narrative.

— What’s a story your family/friends like to tell about you?
Once, I wanted to take off my makeup, but I accidentally used nail polish remover because it looked similar to the makeup remover. So I rubbed nail polish remover into my eyes, and obviously, it hurt really bad, and I screamed for 10 minutes. After I recovered a little bit, I then wanted to take my makeup off and accidentally used the nail polish remover again on my eyes.
— What are 3 interesting facts about you?
1. I like almost every ballsport.
2. I am clumsy but still organized somehow.
3. I don’t know how to do makeup and I barely wear it (except for jobs, of course).
— How did you become a model?
Someone actually reached out to me in the street and asked me if I wanted to become a model.

— What are 3 interesting facts about you?
1. Nature walks are my reset button. If I disappear, I’m probably somewhere chasing golden light and wildflowers.
2. I collect postcards from everywhere I go; they remind me of how far I’ve come.
3. I can sleep for 14 hours straight, and my naps are 3-4 hours long.
— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
Sustainability and the preservation of traditional crafts are really close to my heart. I feel that in today’s fast-moving world, we often forget the stories and hands behind what we wear or use. There’s so much art, patience, and emotion woven into handmade things, whether it’s textiles, embroidery, or any local craft. I truly believe that fashion and lifestyle can be both beautiful and responsible. Supporting artisans, choosing sustainable materials, and valuing quality over excess isn’t just an aesthetic choice, but it’s a way of showing respect to culture, nature, and creativity. For me, it’s about creating a world where art and ethics coexist beautifully.

“Bloom” by The Paper Kites. It’s calm, dreamy, and hopeful. That’s exactly where I am right now, growing, learning, and figuring things out, but in my own soft rhythm.

— How did you become a model?
I first got scouted on Instagram at 15 and later on in real life at Lollapalooza at 17. But when I first knew myself that I wanted to become a model after getting my interest up, I sent a DM to my now mother agency at 19, and everything went pretty fast from there. It’s all about right timing and a person/agent to believe in you.
— The most interesting thing about your family:
When it comes to talents, not one of us has the ability to sing, and the whole bloodline is probably tone deaf, but one thing is for sure: we can serve face one way or the other. The majority of my family has posed as a model one or many times, some jobs bigger than others.
— Share a bit about your background and upbringing.
I’m (ethnicity-wise) from three countries: Sweden, Sierra Leone and Afghanistan. My mom is from Sweden and Sierra Leone, and my biological father is from Afghanistan. I grew up with my one-year-older brother and single mother, no father in the picture, and god, how much my brother and I fought growing up! I grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, which I have a love-hate kind of relationship with. It doesn’t really feel like my home; it feels like my hometown, where I’m from, but no longer belong.

— What’s a favorite book/movie/TV show, and why do you love it?
My favorite movie is Coraline because I love its dark and mysterious world. It mixes imagination, suspense, and a little bit of spookiness, which makes it unique and captivating. I also really like the stop-motion visual style, which gives the film a special atmosphere.
— One thing people may be surprised to find out about you:
A lot of people think I’m Asian, but actually, I’m fully Canadian.
