Ollie Howorth (@ollie_2573) — 186.5 cm / 6’1″ — British/American from Winchester, UK — born August 21st — he/him.

Where:
Another Mother Management (London – mother agency)

— How did you become a model?
I visited a local store, 99 Vintage in Winchester, and made an Instagram video for them after buying a pair of trainers. I almost didn’t go because I woke up ten minutes before the store was closing, and I didn’t have time to shower after a long day of work and a few hours at the gym. I was scouted by Another Mother London, who saw my sweaty 30-second video. When I saw the agency DM asking me to get in touch, I thought it was spam and initially ignored it. Good job that they reached out again; otherwise, I wouldn’t have had this great opportunity.

— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
An issue that I care about is homelessness because when you take the time to get to know your homeless neighbors, you find out the stories of their lives and the hardships that they have encountered. Any one of us could be just one catastrophic event away from ending up in the same position, and I believe that kindness and the right resources can help people rebuild their lives.

— What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I was once considered small but grew more than a foot in just over one school year.
2. I filled out an introductory paper in sixth grade and wrote that I had never broken a bone. Later that day, I broke my first of more than a dozen bones, mostly playing sports.
3. I was born and raised in Chicago and moved to the UK when I was eighteen.

Where:
Tony Araujo (mother agent), Major Model Management (New York)

— Tell us about your hometown.
I was born and raised in Cabo Verde (West Africa). The best thing about Cabo Verde is that it has ten islands, so it’s summer all year long. The worst thing about it is that it is an archipelago, and I wish there was a bridge connecting all of the islands so we could be one. Each island has its own gastronomy, preferred music genre, and dialect.

— Who is your favorite entertainer?
Grace Jones is, without a doubt, one of my favorite inspirations. A multitalented black woman who is not afraid of creating a balance between her feminine and masculine energy. I love how she has been breaking stereotypes and continues to radiate her light wherever she goes.

— How did you become a model?
I was discovered at 14 years old by a Cape Verdean/French designer who saw me walking to a basketball practice and immediately approached me, inviting me to walk for her show. The energy I got stepping on that runway for the first time made me fall in love with modeling. I moved to the US at the age of 16, and I had to start from zero, this time for real! I got signed professionally three years ago, and that’s when I moved to NYC from Boston.
