— How did you become a model?
I grew up in the countryside of Tanzania, Tabora, and I had a passion for fashion since a young age. I used to take pictures of myself with my phone. My elder sister realized my talent, and she told me I could be a model because of my looks. Later I moved to the city of Dar es Salaam for college, and that’s where I started collaborating with photographers and stylists. I was later discovered by my mother agency Gift Models, and got signed.

— What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I say sorry and thank you to people for no strong reason. And that always makes me get many friends who want to help when I’ve problems.
2. I like directing music videos. I always enjoy and get inspired by the combination of art done to produce a single meaningful video.
3. I like to see people of different races from different parts of the world working together because I believe they can create something big by sharing their ideas.

— One thing people may be surprised to find out about you?
I wear thrift clothes the most. Friends and people around me always ask where I get my unique clothes that they think I buy from brand new shops, but the truth is I thrift a lot and at cheap prices from different local markets.

— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
Nature conservation. Being Hawaiian, there’s a lot of land that’s been destroyed to build hotels and touristy shit. Protecting the agriculture and the natural beauty is crucial.

1. I went to military school in Gloucester.
2. I lived in Mexico for 8 months instead of doing my senior year of high school in Hawaii.
3. I only own two pairs of shoes. I had three, but my trainers broke.

There’s a ton of interesting things about my family. I’m the youngest of five siblings. Half of my family lives in Hawaii, and the other half in London. A lot of my uncles have lived very colorful lives that I can’t really get into here.

— If you could talk to your younger self, what advice would you give?
Everything you hate about yourself and wish you could change will be things you end up loving! Be kind and love yourself.

— How did you become a model?
I have always been told to model during my teenage years but never had the courage to do so. One day, I was scouted at the park by the owner of Heffner Management! What made this moment special was that it was at a park that I went to during my childhood with my family almost every week. I stopped going to the park when I moved away from Seattle but decided to go on a random day, and that’s where I met my agent!

— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
An issue I have is the rise of fast fashion and how it’s getting worse. Not only is it affecting the environment and filling up the landfill, but there is no work ethic involved in making the clothes. Consumers should try to buy their clothes secondhand and slow down on shopping. Clothes should be seen as a treasured piece and not a quick trend!

My favorite entertainer is Alex Honnold because he’s the main person that inspired me to start rock climbing. Watching him free solo is very interesting because of the confidence it takes to do it.

— What’s a story your family/friends like to tell about you?
My family likes to tell the story about how when me and my brothers were younger, my brothers were jumping off of the stairs at my house onto the couch while I was trying to get myself to jump off a small curb. I finally did it and was really excited about it.

— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
I’m very passionate about deforestation and climate change because I’ve been studying either forestry or environmental science in college and university. I enjoy learning about different ways to prevent climate change and deforestation because it is something I’m very passionate about.

— One thing people may be surprised to find out about you:
I think the greatest quality I have is my loyalty and compassion. It might sound normal, but I’ve met very few people who expressed these qualities. When it comes to the loyalty I have towards my work and family, I truly believe balance is everything in life. Compassion towards everyone, not discriminating even between my “enemies” and friends, is something I am very proud of.
