— How did you become a model?
My friend, who I actually went to kindergarten with, started homeschooling after she received a modeling contract when she was around 12. I never saw her again until I was in high school. To my amaze, we happened to be in the same freshman English class – she told me that I should submit to an agency, and so I did. The rest is history.

— What are three interesting facts about you?
1.) I love crafting pottery – in high school, I used to stay after school for hours, throwing on the wheel, hand building, glazing, and firing my creations until my teacher practically kicked me out of class. I loved it so much that I convinced my art teacher to have an art workshop for students to come in once a week during the summer to release their creative energy.
2. I absolutely hate hotdogs – you couldn’t even pay me $100 to eat a whole one.
3. To give you a bit of backstory, my mother would always buy us kids ( me and my two brothers) lottery tickets on our birthdays. Well, on my 5th birthday, on my 5th ticket, I won $50. What’s even more of a coincidence is the ticket name was “Five or Fewer.” To this day, five will always be my favorite number.

— One thing people may be surprised to find out about you:
People are always shocked when I tell them I’m a professional commercial hip-hop dancer. I’ve opened for multiple mainstream rappers such as Rodwave, Moneybagg Yo, Latto, etc. I’ve even graciously been given the opportunity to perform in a music video. Most people think tall white kids can’t dance, but that obviously isn’t always the case.

— Who is someone you admire and why?

Bob Marley holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been a fan of his music since I was a child, and I deeply resonate with his perspective on life. His songs have brought me inspiration.

— An issue or cause you are passionate about:

The social class dynamics in today’s world bother me a lot. There is too much indifference and injustice, and it’s disheartening. We need more compassion in today’s world!

— What are three interesting facts about you?

1. I have a real passion for adrenaline sports, like parkour. It’s all about the thrill and excitement of pushing my limits.
2. On the other hand, I absolutely adore the beach and the incredible vibe it brings. It’s a place of relaxation and joy for me.

3. I strongly believe in karma and the idea that our choices shape our destiny. It’s fascinating how our actions can influence the course of our lives.

— Who is your favorite entertainer?
My favorite entertainer is Freddie Mercury. Firstly because he had nothing before starting his career. His face and moves are full of messages, emotions, and huge confidence and self-esteem.

— How did you become a model?
It was random: a friend wanted to apply to a model agency, and I told him I wanted to do it too. I had this idea for a long time! So I sent my photos to SPIN ;)

— One thing people may be surprised to find out about you:
People get surprised when they find out about my kindness. They tell me later that my look, movements, and few words make me look bad and scary (that’s why people should not judge.)

Ôda Cairu (@oda_cairu) — 180 cm / 5’11” — Brazilian from Bahia, Brazil — born July 6th — she/her.

Where:
Joy Management (São Paulo – mother agency), 26 MODELS (Milan)

— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
I am passionate about researching my existence as a trans woman, as well as the experiences of other trans-black bodies, and documenting our survival strategies so they can be a reference and a welcome to other trans bodies. Brazil is the country with the highest murder rate of trans people and also the country that watches the most trans pornography in the world. Trans people have a life expectancy of 35 years old, according to ANTRA. My passion is to create technologies together with my sisters to subvert this reality and make a long life with health, safety, and abundance more possible for us.

— The most interesting thing about your family:
Inverted roles between family members mean that my mother is also the mother of my aunts, and my aunts are also my sisters! My grandmother raised me as her daughter, so my mother is my sister too. We are very close!

— What’s a story your family/friends like to tell about you?
People always talk about me being polite, intellectual, and very bad at resolving a fight. They often exaggerate about anything I’ve experienced, done, or accomplished, always in a very grandiose and enthusiastic way, which is comical and fun!

Rebecca

Who:
Rebecca Xu (@rebecca.bxu) — 173 cm / 5’8.5″ — Australia from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia — born February 13th — she/her.

Where:
IMG Australia (Sydney – mother agency)

— What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I like to take pictures of everything. My camera roll is filled with images of the sky–clouds, sunsets, the moon. My photos take up a lot of storage on my phone, haha.
2. Additionally, I tend to go through phases of picking up a new crafting hobby, like learning calligraphy, then crochet, and most recently, embroidery.
3. I’m also not too great with spicy foods, haha (the only one in my family!)

— How did you become a model?
I got scouted very unexpectedly at the Ekka (like the Sydney Easter Show). It was the first year I had properly attended too, and I didn’t even realize people got scouted in Brisbane–I thought that would only happen in Sydney or Melbourne!

— What weird or useless talent do you have?
I can just about fall asleep anywhere, lights on or off. Probably more weird than useless since I wouldn’t be short of sleep on a plane, which is definitely a plus.

Gustave Moreau, a symbolist painter. He has a museum in Paris. For me, he found the godly balance in composition, color, and the subjects he paints.

— The most interesting thing about your family:
I am vegetarian, and my dad has a slaughterhouse.

— What’s a story your family/friends like to tell about you?
My mom likes to tell the story of when my brother and I lit my grandma’s curtain on fire when we were young.
