Chaima

Who:
Chaima El Haddaoui (@sjeema) — 175 cm / 5’9″ — Dutch/Moroccan from Amsterdam, The Netherlands — born January 14th — she/her.

Where:
Mouna Models (Amsterdam – mother agency), Boundary London Ltd

— Who is your favorite entertainer?
Poet, film director, and screenwriter Abbas Kiarostami. He possessed the particular talent of conveying through both his writing and films, in the simplest way possible, the type of raw emotions that are almost always too deep for words. His work ‘Taste of Cherry’ never fails to move me to tears. A film about a middle-aged man who drives through a suburb looking for someone to bury him after he commits suicide. Another one of his works, a collection of poetry titled ‘A Wolf Lying in Wait’, will make you want to move to the edge of the globe in pursuit of undying love.

— The most interesting thing about your family:
I am number 7 out of 8 daughters. The age gap between my oldest sister and me is 17 years – which adds the needed context to how I became an aunt at age 4. I have 0 brothers.
My mom was a young shepherd in the countryside in Morocco before she migrated to the Netherlands with my dad.

— What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I wake up before the birds and the sun rises every day to pray my sunrise prayer.
2. I’m a writer.
3. I’m studying to become a TCM practitioner.

— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
I’m really disappointed in the way humans have been treating other humans; although this has been going on for centuries, we are much more educated and much more capable of understanding that all human beings deserve food, water, and shelter, and in countries such as Palestine, North Korea, China (Uyghurs) and many more, these things are not available. I hope that more people use their platforms to spread awareness in hopes that the people who can make the change actually do it.

— What’s a story your family/friends like to tell about you?
My parents love telling people about how one of the first words I learned was “Hello,” and I would say it to every person we crossed on the street, at the supermarket, etc. My mom says it’s why I’m an extrovert today.

— What are you super interested in that most people have never heard of?
I’m really interested in the future food market. Not a lot of people realize that in a couple of years, we’re going to have to change the ways we eat and the foods we consume. I really enjoy cooking, so I’m slowly learning how to make the most out of every ingredient, and reading about the future market helps to learn new ways of cooking with “weird” ingredients.

— What are you super interested in that most people have never heard of?
I want to do a 2-week hike Anapurna Circuit in the Himalayas with my dad. And also, thanks to that, to see Nepal.

— How did you become a model?
I always thought I wouldn’t be a model; I love sports, and I was more like a sporty type. But my younger sister had this dream, and we are so close that we both tried it out at the casting for my mother agency. And it worked out, and we hope to be the next Bella and Gigi Hadid ☺

— Who is your favorite entertainer?
I would rather choose a sports star and my inspiration, Michael Jordan, than an entertainer. Even when I played basketball, I liked to wear his jersey to practice, and I felt so cool! I admired his shooting success and, at the same time, his activity in defense.

An Indian game in which players try to strike a small stick called a gilli with a long stick called a danda. A game I’ve never played, but I just spent an hour watching youtube videos on it.
