Growing up, I saw my Aunt Alek Wek’s journey. She inspired me to take the plunge. I really admired how throughout her career, she stood out, changing narratives in the industry. It’s a big motivation to see someone so close to home doing it at that level; it fills me with pride! And, of course, the fabulous shoots are a mix between creativity and all the technical work that goes on behind the scenes. So inspiring.

The late Nelson Mandela, I admire his strength, determination, and how he brought people together for positive change. Oh, and Maya Angelou, her body of work touches my soul.

I grew up with a speech impediment. I was very unaware at the time, but I couldn’t pronounce my s’s and r’s until 6th grade. Choir class is what helped me pronounce those letters correctly.

— An issue or cause you are passionate about:
Something I am passionate about is mental health and well-being. I am very observant of people around me and how they’re feeling, including myself. I believe that journaling and meditation is a great ways to express and reset yourself. Also, doing things you love, whether it’s taking yourself out to eat or surrounding yourself with positive people, is really important. I also love being an open hand for anyone that is struggling or needs someone to vent to.

— What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I went to school for Early Childhood Education. I wanted to become a kindergarten teacher. However, modeling took a strong approach in my teen years that I couldn’t resist trying.
2. If I didn’t take a leap of faith with modeling, I would most likely be playing semi-pro/pro soccer somewhere (before entering my teaching career). I grew up extremely athletic and was scouted by a few colleges to continue playing. I would have a completely different life which is crazy to think about.
3. I am secretly obsessed with fashion and design. Honestly, I am not the best artist, so the drawing part of fashion/design has always been difficult for me. But I strongly have a desire for that creative side and love seeing all the different types of trends that recycle throughout the years.
