I became a model through the help of my very close friend (Annie). I am forever grateful to her for sending my images to my current mother agency and to them for believing in me. This was sometime in June 2020!

Anick

Who:
Anick Chan (@anick_chan); 177 cm / 5’9.5″; Brazilian from Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil; born June 24th.

Where:
Way Model Management (São Paulo – mother agency)

— The most interesting thing about your family?
One thing I find very interesting is the fact that my family is very mixed. For example, my father is Chinese, which shocks a lot of people because I don’t have many Chinese traits. My mother is Brazilian and I have three brothers, two Portugueses and a Brazilian twin. I love them all so much!

— What are three interesting facts about you?
The first fact is that I have been a vegetarian since I was 14 years old. I have always been passionate about animals and over time, it didn’t make sense to me, to love something so much and at the same time contribute to an industry that promotes its cruelty. The second is that I am a huge fan of Caetano Veloso, not only for me, he is one of the most brilliant Brazilian artists. Caetano manages to reflect all his genius in his lyrics, it is incredible. And the third and last is that I love to put my thoughts and feelings on paper, it helps me in a very positive way to make difficult situations lighter, it is almost therapeutic

— What is something you wish you knew more about?
Sociology and fashion. I have always been very interested in sociology, studying aspects of our life, how we relate and think and why this fascinates me and certainly, is something that in the future I want to go deeper. And fashion, it has been a recent passion, when I was a little girl I played many games of “dressing your doll” and I thought it was great, today I see it as something more than just visual, I feel that it is a powerful way of expressing ourselves and telling our narratives, is an extension of our personality.

Where:
Pure Model Management (Prague – mother agency), Wonderwall Management (Milan), Le Management (Hamburg)

— What is something you wish you knew more about?
That’s a really difficult question to be honest because I love learning in general, so I wish to know more about everything. But one thing stands out and that’s plant care. Recently I tried propagating plants for the first time, and I butchered it terribly.

— How and when did you become a model?
That’s quite a funny story. In 2019, an old friend of my father jokingly said that I look like a model and my mother caught on and kept bringing it up until I gave in and went on a casting at a small local agency. One thing led to another and here I am.

— One thing people may be surprised to find out about you:
Next year I’m going to computer science college which some tend to find a bit absurd considering I’m a model. I suppose that’s because these two stereotypes contradict each other in some ways.

Where:
The Pure Mgmt (The Netherlands – mother agency), Wave Management / The Wall (Milan)

— What are three interesting facts about you?
1. Throughout my childhood I’ve always had the same two dreams for the future: to become a model and to work at a space research center. These dreams have never changed, even though they seemed impossible. At some point, I gave up on these dreams and focused on studying language and art in university. But everything changed. I got scouted as a model and also finally had the courage to take physics and math classes. I’m working really hard on it now and hope to study (astro)physics in university, so that my second dream can come true as well!
2. One of the most important things to me is playing the drums. I started taking percussion lessons 9 years ago and was obsessed with it right away. Not much later I joined a drum band! The band is a big part of my life and feels like a second family. We have a band rehearsal every Friday and I look forward to it all week!
3. My most used nickname to this day is ‘Bob’ (or Bobby). I’ve had many nicknames, but for some reason, this super random name just keeps sticking around and is being used by both my friends and my parents.

— Among your friends or family, what are you famous for?
Among them, I’m probably famous for not being able to stand up when I’m laughing. My legs just turn into soft spaghetti strings… I can’t help it. Apparently, I also dance unconsciously at any random location, they seem to appreciate it though.

— How and when did you become a model?
Two years ago I was just walking around at a fair with my mom when I got scouted by a judge of Holland’s Next Top Model. I didn’t really believe that I could be a model, so to try it I took part in an event where you could present yourself to multiple Dutch and international modeling agencies. I was overwhelmed by the amount of interest. It was a big confidence booster and I decided to give modeling a try. I found a mother agency that I really liked and then signed with them.

— Who is someone you admire and why?
As I big sportsman myself, I’ve always looked up to professional athletes, especially basketball players. One of my role models to this day is Kobe Bryant. I’ve always admired his state of mind; striving for greatness and never stop working hard are things I try to apply to my everyday life.

— Who is your favorite entertainer?
I would say Luidji. He is a French singer who helped me go through a lot during the first lockdown. I love the way in which he sees human relationships, especially romantic relations, his approach to friendship and how he manages to translate it into music. I see myself in his music.

— How and when did you become a model?
It was summer 2020, I was heading to Paris to see some friends and I came across an old friend of mine who was already modeling at that time. He convinced me to give modeling a shot that day. A couple of days later we took photos, sent them to some mother agencies and then everything went very quickly. I got some replies, went to a couple of test shoots and signed with my current mother agency.
