Y-3 Fall/Winter 2013
Y-3 Fall/Winter 2013
Y-3’s sporty fusion of functionality and high fashion has been delighting editors for over a decade now and with the line’s layered and luxe fall collection, the mega-brand shows no signs of letting up. With appealing wears for men and women, the season’s black and slate selection, accented by pops of crimson and olive, looked especially chic on the runway. Yohji Yamamoto’s touch was felt through several proportion plays: a sleek blazer with asymmetrical detailing and the classic Adidas stripes, baggy plaid trousers that stop right at the ankle and create a voluminous shape, textured shorts worn over leggings for a dapper menswear silhouette. Each element worked beautifully together and offered a fresh perspective on dressing for an active life.
Some of the most visually stimulating pieces were imbued with an athletic take on futurism that makes them likely candidates for editorial greatness. Transparent raincoats with neon accents and oversized jackets with bold geometric patterns hammered home the collection’s “analog vs. digital” theme. These overtly experimental looks broke up the sea of black and provided eye-candy for an audience of stylists, editors and buyers eager to find that next impactful item. Don’t be surprised when you open up magazines a few months from now and see a whole lot of Y-3 staring back at you.
