Fashion’s only unconditional term is the future: operating a year ahead, after all. So, in an industry where change and relevancy are the full stops at the end of every sentence, Models.com wanted to highlight individuals who add permanence to the community–some at their start and some at their top. Photographer Ben Hassett gets up close and personal for Models.com with the creative forces often behind the scenes. They are the Industry, Now.

There is a playful reverence behind the subjects makeup artist Tyron Machhausen works on. Toeing the line between his maximalist creations and showing a woman’s pure beauty, the New York transplant first made the move from Berlin in 2002 and since then has succeeded in pushing an aesthetic that doesn’t shy from color and sparkle, all while keeping looks undetectably refined. Machhausen has transformed the ready faces of models plenty but what is most surprising, replicates the same bold principles on actresses like Jessica Chastain, Zazie Beetz, Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington, Margot Robbie, and Rihanna. Showcasing the power of diverse beauty, Machhausen signifies the power of living outside your comfort zone.

Is fashion and beauty better than it once was?

This is something that always lies in the eye of the beholder – but what I especially love about the time we currently live in is that the concept of beauty has and is constantly evolving. Young people growing up in this era have a much bigger sense of inclusivity – what’s considered beautiful is so much more multi-faceted now then what it was 30, 20 or even 10 years ago. It all comes down to representation which opens up our eyes to the many interpretations of what beauty means. I absolutely love this and it makes it very exciting to live in the now!

What’s your favorite part of the process?

The transformation is my favorite and most satisfying part of the process especially if everybody on the team is working in unison and is inspiring each other – that’s when magic is being created.
