Plastic animal floats worn as headpieces and a Shell logo redesigned to read \u2018Hell\u2019 nod to the environmental toll of tourism and pollution, while the vibrant colors and generally effervescent vibe hint at tropical climes. The current collection grew out of Botter\u2019s graduation project from Antwerp\u2019s Royal Academy of Fine Arts. \u201cI had three years at the Academy and I experimented with everything and in the fourth year I felt really confident and I had found my own ways of working,\u201d he explains. \u201cIt was a really logical step and it was a tribute to my Caribbean roots. It was really organic and honest and from then on we decided that this is really about us. He joined the army at seventeen for about a year until he read an article in Vogue about the designer Walter Van Beirendonck, who discussed his work as the director of the fashion program at the Royal Academy. \u201cI was like, \u2018What? You can actually study fashion?\u2019\u201d Botter recalls. \u201cSo I quit the army immediately and started a technical school to really understand garments and patterns and then I applied and got into the Academy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During Botter\u2019s time at the Royal Academy, Herrebrugh, a graduate of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, moved to Antwerp to be with him and help him with his studies while working as a freelance designer on her own. When he graduated, it only made sense for the two of them to go into business together. The design process passes back and forth between them, with Herrebrugh creating the initial collages and mood boards and Botter drafting the sketches before Herrebrugh takes back over to transform them into three-dimension designs. \u201cWe\u2019re really honest with each other and respect each other and I think that\u2019s the most important thing,\u201d Botter says. \u201cWe challenge each other by being honest.\u201d\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"small-12 columns pic60\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/i.mdel.net\/mdx\/i\/2018\/07\/MODELSLAMBOTTER654.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2667\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-54308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i.mdel.net\/mdx\/i\/2018\/07\/MODELSLAMBOTTER654.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/i.mdel.net\/mdx\/i\/2018\/07\/MODELSLAMBOTTER654-1280x1707.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/i.mdel.net\/mdx\/i\/2018\/07\/MODELSLAMBOTTER654-150x200.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"txtbox\">Botter and Herrebrugh are stunned by the attention they have received over the past twelve months and the next twelve promise to be even busier, with an upcoming collaboration with the French brand Petit Bateau and work with Chanel&#8217;s M\u00e9tiers d&#8217;Art craftsmen as part of their Hy\u00e8res prize. \u201cImagine the iconic things that Chanel does, but done by us in our own way,\u201d Botter hints.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"small-12 columns picfullwidth\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/i.mdel.net\/mdx\/i\/2018\/07\/MODELSLAMBOTTER599.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-54310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i.mdel.net\/mdx\/i\/2018\/07\/MODELSLAMBOTTER599.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/i.mdel.net\/mdx\/i\/2018\/07\/MODELSLAMBOTTER599-1280x960.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/i.mdel.net\/mdx\/i\/2018\/07\/MODELSLAMBOTTER599-200x150.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"txtbox\">\nDoing things in their own way is perhaps exactly why the Botter team has achieved such impressive success so quickly already\u2014and it\u2019s clear that they plan to continue doing so in the future. \u201cThese are the things that keep us awake at night that we\u2019re thinking about,\u201d Botter says of the ideas that drive their designs. \u201cIt\u2019s like a writer writing his book, this is how we express ourselves and really communicate to the rest of the world. For us, it\u2019s the most human thing to do to speak about these things.
