Amongst them, long-stemmed and willowy <a href='https:\/\/models.com\/models\/jamilla-hoogenboom'>Jamilla Hoogenboom<\/a> was of the variety to stand out amongst runway frequenters for her breakout Spring\/Summer 2016 season. Tack on a C\u00e9line and Alexander McQueen campaign and it\u2019s clear she was destined to join the ranks of in-demand Dutch girls. Before this a stint as a seventeen year old student of fashion kept her out of the industry\u2019s reach until her sights were set on modeling, moving it beyond an afterthought. With a new resolve, catwalks came calling and she answered without ado. It was a good move. Since then, one year later, her appeal has been made quite certain. I was studying fashion design, but I didn&#8217;t like the school that much so I stopped, and Micha Models, my mother agency, they discovered me when I was fifteen. <\/p>\n<p><strong>So you were studying fashion at what age?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was seventeen. I was already at the agency but I didn&#8217;t do anything because of school. So when I stopped studying, that&#8217;s when I started modeling. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Why didn&#8217;t you like fashion school?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I liked the study itself, but the school was not good. I didn&#8217;t really like the people who were in the school. <\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you decide to model?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was really my friends that pushed me so hard that I did it. Because, at first, I didn&#8217;t see me walking the shows and doing photoshoots and that kind of thing. But I really do like Alexander Wang. I walked the show from them and just got this new jacket [shows off jacket]. He&#8217;s really nice. It was really nice walking for him. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where would prefer to be based out of?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>I like just being based in Holland, I really like the city and my friends, I have a boyfriend out there. He is still in school. But maybe later\u2013I really like New York <\/p>\n<p><strong>How is your boyfriend with all the traveling you get to do, is he jealous of it? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He thinks it&#8217;s pretty cool, but he misses me a lot, that&#8217;s the thing. <\/p>\n<p><strong>I suppose if you&#8217;re in Europe it&#8217;s easy to travel between cities. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We do that. That&#8217;s the advantage of Europe. I love to see things from other cities. And I really like France. My boyfriend&#8217;s parents have a house there in the South of France, so that&#8217;s where we go a lot. With my parents, we always go to a summer vacation to Antalya, Turkey. It has a beach and it&#8217;s a big city. But I&#8217;d really like to go to some other bigger cities. <\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s something people don&#8217;t know about you? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I played water polo. Nobody knows that. I really miss it. I had to stop, of course. I played it when I was 6 years old until my 18th. For twelve years. <\/p>\n<p><strong>I don&#8217;t know too much about it\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s similar to football, but in the water. It&#8217;s quite extreme. You&#8217;re always swimming and it&#8217;s very hard. Underwater there is a lot of things like scratching that are really extreme, but I really liked it. It&#8217;s seven players on a team, but there are more on the bench because you&#8217;re so tired so you can&#8217;t play the whole game. <\/p>\n<p><strong>So what are you doing instead of that now to stay active? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I like to go running. Friends of mine are living in the West Village so you have the West Side Highway and the High Line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you find you have an advantage running because you&#8217;re so much taller and your long legs? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No I&#8217;m not faster [laughs]! I&#8217;m not really fast at running, but I also like to walk. I really liked it. I got some great shows. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Was that a challenge at all because it was your first one?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Actually, it was quite new for me and there are a lot of things happening. I think it was mentally a bit challenging, because there are always people around you. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you gotten used to meeting so many people?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m getting used to it. I am quite bad with names actually, but I think everybody has that. You&#8217;re meeting so many people. Everyday it&#8217;s new people. <\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s your strongest personality trait?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The thing is I really like meeting new people. I&#8217;ve always had that. In the beginning I didn&#8217;t know if I wanted to do this, being alone. Now I can meet with people. I really don&#8217;t like to be alone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So if someone not in modeling asked you what it&#8217;s like to be a model, how would you describe it to them? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think all the people that are not in the fashion world have other thoughts about being a model, everybody says, \u201cOh my god, that&#8217;s so nice you can travel and it&#8217;s so nice you have those jobs.&#8221; But it&#8217;s really hard actually, it&#8217;s very long days. So I always explain that to them. But yeah\u2013the traveling is good. <\/p>\n<p><strong>What defines a Dutch girl and how do Dutch girls act different from girls of other places?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think Dutch girls are really open. Socially a bit crazy. But I am more independent for sure, you&#8217;re doing everything alone. Also my English is getting better and better. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you speak any other languages? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I can speak German. <\/p>\n<p><strong>So far what kind of shoots do you prefer? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I like the more classic ones, and I really like to shoot, I prefer shooting over shows. It&#8217;s because you&#8217;re working with the team and it&#8217;s the whole day and it&#8217;s relaxing. With shows everything is going so quick\u2013the hair and makeup and going to the rehearsal, fast, fast, fast. You do the show and that&#8217;s it. It\u2019s a frenzy. With a shoot it takes the whole day, you have good communication with the people and it&#8217;s really nice to work with a great team. But I don&#8217;t like makeup. I hate it. <\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s on your modeling bucket list for the next year? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a very difficult question. I really want to have a a billboard in New York. That would be cool.
