Valentino Fall/Winter 2011

Posted by Stephan Moskovic | March 18th, 2011

The Valentino brand has always understood femininity, but under the direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, that means something very different than it did when the legendary Garavani was at the helm. Chiuri and Piccioli favor a light and almost demure look that skews girly with touches of lace and sheer detailing, but never looks immature. This season featured the gauzy dresses the duo have become known for, but expanded the airy look to include structured separates for day, floral printed gowns and a lineup of on trend python accessories. No matter the look, an ethereal feel ran through the entire showing; even the thick fur worn by Patricia Van Der Vliet and the laser cut leather skirt on Daphne Groeneveld seemed to float. When designers can take materials that dense and imbue them with lightness it shows not only talent, but the power of a compelling design signature.

  1. Octopus says:

    Lovely photos and collection!

  2. Mia says:

Nice work on the designers part. BUT this is not Valentino. Its a mix of Chanel Gucci, and a bit of Versace. Mr Valentino Garavani was a masterpiece, an original. He knew femininity, luxury and most importantly, beauty! It is sad his work never carried on!

  3. Suzette says:

    I just fell in love.

  4. Mal.S says:

Wow, can’t go wrong with sticking to the classics. Love the clothes 🙂 Particularly the feathered skirt outfit worn by Jordan, and that leather trench. If I were rich or a celeb, Valentino would surely account for my closet. For the time being, I’ll just stick to guess jeans clothes ;p

  5. Carolina says:

I found a beautiful color palette of nude and green. But he lost the originality of the same style of bag by Prada created with that footprint of different hand and some models are already a little past.

  6. Taylor says:

    Freja’s BACCCCCKKK!!

  7. Andrew says:

Jourdan Dunn is everywhere this season!

  8. Adèle says:

Perfection! and so is Freja <3

  9. FF says:

@Mia, I agree with you even if Valentino’s latest collections are beautiful, I think no one can denies it, but I find them so austere and kind of repetitive. Valentino was all about glamour, sofistication, and opulence. I know that the house must grow but conserving its roots. for me Jason Wu or Takoon would’ve kept Valentino’s legacy better.

  10. Nigel S. says:

It was surely one the designing duo’s strongest, most Valentino-centric shows to date, coupling with the S/S 2011 show. I loved the coat and sheer dress in the Reeve’s Pheasant print, the 3 very Valentino, studded flannel (or other textile) pieces and the sheer peach frock on Kasia. In US Vogue of this month, there is an image of Giovanna Battaglia working the frack out of the 1st look of the F/W2010 Show. It seems as the duo are discovering a stable footing. There are some pretty fantastic pieces instore..It will be an interesting voyage as they continue developement.

  16. NonChoix says:

It’s nice but not Valentino in anyway. It’s way too generic and boring for my taste.

  17. MissNicole says:

Wow- I will take one of everything please!

On a side note- anyone else notice Tati is shrinking before our very eyes? It’s a bit frightening.
