For the latest MDX, model Cierra Skye gets wholly reimagined as a modern Lina Cavalieri – the instantly recognizable face behind the artist Piero Fornasetti’s plate-shaped, etched illustrations. Cavalieri was often called “the world’s most beautiful woman” and for Fornasetti it was this enigmatic, nineteenth-century opera singer’s face that inspired his countless impressions. Now, photographer Marcus Ohlsson finds a face just as rare or more, calling on Skye’s Boticellian features to serve as muse and canvas. With his team they breath new life into the Milanese artists signature look. Helping realize the vision, makeup artists Fredrik Stambro’s fine art finesses use stroke, dot and halftone pattern to surreal effect. Hair stylist Franco Gobbi also moves the visuals from something simple, to something abstract and Jessica dos Remedios adds the final styling touches. See the entire editorial, aptly titled after Fornesseti’s own book “Tema e Variazioni”, below.
