Marfa, Texas
With Chanel showing its pre-fall collection in Dallas and western style threads appearing in the pages of influential fashion magazines worldwide, Texas is the current buzzed about locale amongst the fashion set. Runway trends aside, Texas has always held a special importance within the world of art and culture and nowhere is that more evident than in the city of Marfa. With its sun-drenched natural landscape and connections to contemporary art, Marfa is a cultural nexus point that draws millions of visitors.

For those in the know the serene landscapes of Marfa have long served as a source of inspiration. Over the years, a diverse group of creatives has gravitated there, resulting in landmark work. On the cinema side, everything from the James Dean & Elizabeth Taylor classic Giant, to the Coen Brother’s taut Cormac McCarthy adaption, No Country for Old Men has been filmed in Marfa. A wealth of art from pioneers like Donald Judd (who famously moved from NYC to Marfa in the early seventies) to Dan Flavin and Robert Irwin serve to make the city a can’t miss destination for aficionados and collectors. Landmarks like Elmgreen and Dragset’s tongue in cheek Prada Marfa installation merge pop culture and art, much like the town itself. It’s this combination of esteemed creatives and unique history that makes the Marfa experience dynamic.

With this in mind, photographer Thom Jackson, Swedish model Julia Hafstrom and creative director Andrew Weir joined forces to capture the essence of Marfa and its natural beauty. In larger than life black and white shots, the trio creates an atmosphere at once rustic and otherworldly. Experience their enveloping photographs in this Models.com editorial, only in MDX.
