Kenzo Fall/Winter 2013

It goes without saying that Kenzo’s Carol Lim and Humberto Leon march to the beat of their own drummer. While others follow trends, Lim and Leon have blazed a vibrant trail, bringing maximalist frenzy back to the runways with their energetic collections and skillful showmanship. Kenzo isn’t just another show, it’s a full fledged spectacle impeccably crafted down to the last component. Fall saw the duo transforming Paris’ storied department store La Samaritaine into a catwalk for the first and possibly only show ever staged there; it made for an out of the box showcase for some of their best designs to date.

Inspired by their exploration of Chinese, Nepalese and Indian temples, Lim and Leon created a lush series of richly detailed ensembles. Metallic gold accents on pants and dresses were a highlight, while the season’s most fascinating embellishment came courtesy of a eye print that covered everything from overcoats to skirts. The whimsical add-ons didn’t stop there, but the true magic moment came with those shimmering finale dresses.
