Giambattista Valli F/W 17

“Everybody has their own DNA and this is mine.” Such was the parting word from Giambattista Valli who blurred the lines further between couture and ready-to-wear with a surprising addition of sports luxe into his latest collection. Fall’s new undertaking incorporated Nike of all brands into the overtly feminine Valli code of coquettish romanticism that has consistently maintained devotion from a legion of loyal it girls. Mixing high and low isn’t uncharted territory for the Roman designer but bringing in normcore athletic wear was a fresh take on the doctrine, modernly bringing high brow sensibility down to earth. “My woman is not afraid to mix couture with ready-to-wear with Nike as she mixes in an instinctive way. She’s nomadic and the clash of cultures is embraced,” the designer mused. And mix she did with a dainty palette of cardinal red, creme, and sheer black amidst cheeky cherry and floral print. Lacy wares and a strong selection of coats modeled by show opener Skylar Tartz, Lineisy Montero, Jess PW, Camille Hurel, and Tami Williams drove home Valli’s dedication to the new wave of feminism that stands proud in being women.
