The Galleria Borghese in Rome hosted an exceptional exhibition dedicated to one of the greatest couturiers of our time, Azzedine Alaïa. With over 30 years of archived pieces presented, the showing titled “Couture/Sculpture: Azzedine Alaïa in the History of Fashion”, was an exclusive view into the craftsmanship and detailed laser-cut signature of Mr. Alaïa, set against sculptural masterpieces of eras past. There his pieces stood like monoliths, unwaveringly fixed and celebrating the human form much like the works of art around them – but then that’s no surprise. Alaïa’s modus operandi has honored the female figure by building flattering bandage wrap dresses, structural frocks with flourish to spare, and enviable waist belts. Timeless in construction, elegant in style Alaïa continues his ingenious artistry of desired attire.
