Anna Sui Fall/Winter 2013
Anna Sui Fall/Winter 2013
The Anna Sui show is known for its lighthearted atmosphere and sense of fun so it seems only natural that Sui’s fall collection would begin with a dance. Françoise Hardy and France Gall blared on the speakers as superstars Karlie Kloss, Jamie Bochert, Hilary Rhoda and Liu Wen shook their stuff to the delight of the audience. In a week dominated by seriousness Sui’s optimistic opener was a refreshing change of pace, one that brought smiles to the faces of even the most jaded editors.
Looking back to the swinging sixties – particularly the French New Wave era and its stylish icons, Sui presented her own version of bon chic bon genre. Models sauntered down the catwalk in metallic coats and electric shades, with shimmering handbags held neatly in the crooks of their arms. While Godard’s Bande à part may have been a source of inspiration, these looks were louder and bolder than anything we’ve ever seen on the streets of Paris. The Sui-ification of classic silhouettes is sure to play with those free-spirited girls who love to express themselves via color, pattern and vitality.
