Alexander Wang S/S 11

Posted by Stephan Moskovic | September 13th, 2010

In the past four years Alexander Wang’s name has become nearly synonymous with a very specific look; think high heel combat boots, a short black dress and a cigarette dangling precariously from a girl’s fingertips as she hums along to a Nirvana song and you’ll be on the right track. For the generation that missed grunge the first time around, Wang brought it back sleeker than before and became a sensation in the process.

With the downtown look being knocked off left and right and 90s nostalgia moving into the mainstream, the time was right for a perspective adjustment and Wang delivered just that. His monochromatic spring offerings hit several of the season’s emerging trends, while ushering in a sea of change for his brand. The stark white pieces, reminiscent of Helmut Lang’s work (currently a favorite point of reference for the twenty something design crowd) were a breath of fresh air. Unexpected touches of coral and mint prevented things from delving into monotony, while anchoring the collection firmly in spring.

As always accessories served as a focal point, with an unusual set of lace up booties accompanying many of the looks and oversized silver necklaces accentuating the metallic sheen of the fabrics. Karl Templar’s styling precision certainly elevated the evening’s looks, but it was Wang’s skillful cuts and smart shift towards minimalism that made the show an event.

The first picture is so dreamy. I’ve never seen someone look so angelic while sporting a nose ring. The rows of shoes made my mouth water.

  2. Ming says:

lovely fabrics and prints. it’s different from normal Wang, but I like it.

  3. I think everyone looks awesome at the show… love the shoes they are probably the next must have !!

The hair, the make up, the silhouette–all perfect. He really knocked it out of the park.

  5. jake says:

are the nose rings fake or did the girls actually get them for the show? im not a fan of those septum piercings. jacqelyn with bleached eyebrows is a definite mistake. all the girls look beautiful though, and i take back my previous comment about the platinum blonde not suiting abbey, she looks good.

  6. GP says:

That was a bad photo of Karen Elson.
    Love the shoes:)

  7. Joe says:

fake septum piercings are not cool . I’m a big fan of Alexander Wang though!

  8. Ken says:

Thank you for posting these beautiful images of the clothes! When I first saw the collection on style.com I briefly glazed over the photos based on color and silhouette. However after viewing these they captured an essence of the collection I did not see from far away, the minute design details and intricacies that really make the simple shapes interesting. bravo!

  9. Irene says:

I’m gonna do my hair that way to school =D
    I’M IN LOVEEEHH!

  10. Oscar says:

I love the pics that models.com posts. Shows close detail. Honestly just not a fan of Alexander Wang. Is it because he’s restricted with money and he tries to put the best clothes out there than he can come up with that budge, or is this truly his vision? Meanwhile, can’t wait for Oscar De La Renta’s gowns, and Marc Jacobs stage.

  11. Jeremy says:

  12. Natasha says:

who is the girl in the first pic – that new blonde????

  13. Wow! A great designer here, lovely models, awesome photos, beautiful clothes, amazing shoes, love it all!

  14. carola says:

Yeah poor Karen, that’s a terrible picture of her. The other pics are fantastic.

The nose rings are out of place, I guess he didn’t wanna sell out completely?

Magdalena really is one of the best models, she will do great even after she’s not hip anymore.

And I think that platinum hair on Abbey sort of hides her beauty, it distracts from her very pretty face, like you only see the hair and that’s not good.

  15. buup says:

    awesome designer

    amazing line-up of models!

  16. BRM says:

    A. Wang could well give the next campaign for Aline Weber … And I felt
lack of Ana Beatriz Barros! Where is Ambrosio and Isabeli??

  17. Kalli says:

Gosh I have never seen septum rings pulled off so beautifully. The messy paint and all….still BEAUTIFUL. Great designer, great production, I want to be a part of this so bad I can taste it.

The First Model is such a rare poetic beauty, (Hope to see more of her soon.)
As for the shoes… Love the design, They’re gonna be a hit.
“Where can I find them?” 🙂

  20. Sense SA Tio NAL

    Creatively imaginatively WELL DONE

  21. Alessia says:

Ouch, the eyebrows were too kooky. Can’t believe the girls/agents agreed to that! Especially for Karolina, the girl needs eyebrows otherwise the nose takes over & it’s all you see. And also much imperfections are noticeable, like bad skin, etc., especially in Agyness! The clothes are cool as always, but the drama was over-concepted with the hair & nose rings AND eyebrows…

  22. Anna says:

    Amazing show and photos!
    The shoes are killing it…
