Mustafa Yanaz Origins in Hair Started with Family

Mustafa Yanaz is the German hairstylist taking New York by storm, proving the boundary between art and hairdressing can be a fine one indeed. Fueled by his distinctive sculptural touch and innovative ideas, his career rise can be traced back to his origins in the German hairdressing scene working for Toni & Guy and Schwarzkopf before breaking out into the runway show circuit. With an impressive clientele that spans from top models like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Grace Elizabeth to editorial shoots in Dazed, Another, and Vogue Italia, Yanaz has been cutting, shaping, and redefining the norms of hair styling, marrying an artistic perspective that dares to take hair to new heights with a deep understanding of the individual’s personal style. Inspired by his mother’s hair salon in Germany, Yanaz spent years honing his skills before moving to New York City to lend his talents to the global fashion scene, collaborating with renowned photographers like Craig McDean, Harley Weir, Angelo Pennetta, and Carlijn Jacobs, and working with top-tier brands like Gucci, Chanel, and Jimmy Choo. Models.com spoke to Yanaz about making the transition from salons to photoshoot sets, learning new techniques, and pushing himself creatively.
