Giovanni counts down his Vogue Italia departure with help from Karim Sadli and Rianne Van Rompaey

It’s T-minus 2 issues for Giovanni Bianco, as news broke late March that the June 2019 Vogue Italia issue would be the creative director’s last. How does one spend their last days? Well, Bianco handed the cover spot to Karim Sadli, a frequent contributor, but not-yet-until-now frontman for the elite glossy. Considering Rianne Van Rompaey and Sadli go way back (having shot together since 2014), as does the Dutch model with Vogue Italia covers (this adds a 5th to her collection), it was a cover a long time in the making. Excuse us––3 covers a long time in the making. For it, they take the team oceanside: a shock of red tresses, loads of Chanel and enough pearls to sink Rianne should she decide to take a dip. Adding, Van Rompaey is unsinkable, with four stellar single girl covers this year already.

  1. I loved Vogue Italia for more than thirty years, with Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier, Ellen von Unwerth, Paolo Roversi, Arthur Elgort, Peter Lindbergh, Steve Hiett, etc. With Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Yasmeen Ghauri, Elena Christensen, etc., but now everything is so different.
