Fifties Feel

The retro styles of the 1950s look modern all over again thanks to designers like Miuccia Prada and style influencers like Mad Men costume designer, Janie Bryant. Vogue UK tries on the retro trend for size with an editorial shot by Javier Vallhonrat and starring Guinevere Van Seenus. Clad in full skirts and cardigans chosen by Lucinda Chambers, Guinevere certainly looks the part of 50s siren, but do you think the story captures the look and feel of the time period?

  1. I CAN’T WAIT for one team/magazine to take this 50’s revival trend in clothes and make it MODERN!!!
The 5O’s was in the last century;leave it there.
We are supposed to be forward thinking….every edit I see with this feel seems lika a cop out and that they phone it in.
    Come on guys!

  2. Goodness gracious, is there anything she can’t do? Guinevere is easily one of the best models today. It’s a really beautiful editorial, basically.

  3. Well it is definitely styled like the 50’s, but there’s really no setting, no props, which is fine by me I guess. I’ve never been a fan of Guinevere, her look is too unique and strong for me, either you like her or you don’t, and this is why she works here, she is everything you need to make this a good story, regardless of an elaborate setting or props or male models.

  4. GVS never fails! her look was current from the time she appeared till now and i bet another decade and beyond! unconventional yet versatile!

  5. Odd from the article I read in Vanity Fair on Mad Men, Mat Weiner seemed very against anything looking modern and very set on every detail fitting the exact time frame of the period and its amazing the lengths he and his team (Janie Bryant included) go to get it there. I hope Vanity didn’t get it wrong…
