Carson’s City

December 29th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

Carson Parker. Ph: Steven Meisel for Calvin Klein Euphoria Men Fragrance S/S 10.

This North Carolina born stunner, who we first featured in 2005,  has modeling genes that run deep with both an aunt and an uncle who were long time Ford models. With the appearance of his new Meisel lensed Euphoria campaign for Calvin Klein and with several others in the works, it’s certainly looking to be Carson Parker‘s town once again.

Stars In Stripes

December 29th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

The Spring / Summer season is all about star power and modeling’s best and brightest have taken command of the new round of campaigns. Givenchy’s Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott helmed campaign boasts the dynamic duo of Mariacarla Boscono and Natalia Vodianova, surrounded by Simon Nessman, Emil Dostovic and Eduardo Calero: the simple pictures show off Riccardo Tisci’s unforgettable collection and the great line up of models.

Natasha Poly and Ryan Kennedy add a touch of glamour to Gucci, the Russian supermodel gives some of her most impressive poses as Mert & Marcus capture every moment in rich color.

Last but not least Raquel Zimmermann goes classic for Chloe, the subdued campaign gets back to the brand’s heritage. Fashion fans may remember Raquel’s last Chloe campaign from back in 07.

Bits & Bytes: Holiday Edition 2009

December 29th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

In true holiday spirit, Art & Commerce makes a donation to City Harvest. Watercolor by the incomparable Mats Gustafson.

Modeling news:
For those of you who have been away for the holidays on some tropical island and are not obsessively checking the Internet every single day….. Gisele Bundchen finally names her baby.

In other “unless you’ve been under a rock or on a tropical isle” news, Tyra Banks is ending her talk show.

British Vogue highlights their 23 models to watch for 2010. Some are familiar like former MOTW’s Stephanie Rad, Keats Kolyasnikova, Frida and Heidi Rock. We love the new Portia and several other new fabulous faces.

In the on going process of adding slash to their job descriptions, Erin Wasson is rumored to start acting and Noah Mills is ALREADY acting. For those who might remember, we tweeted back in Sept about who was the top model rumored to appear in the new SATC 2… From MOTW to SATC in a mere 7 years, you go Noah! In other former MOTW news, Dolce & Gabbana favorite Adam Senn is supposedly dating Lindsay Lohan. Do what you will with that info.

Speaking of model/slash, Hyoni Kang‘s new store gets a visit by

Jezebel’s Jenna highlights the sad plight of the industry when the unbelievable Lara Stone is considered “fat”.

Oh too cute. Coco Rocha and a gaggle of 5 year olds visit her agency.

Fashion and photography:
So sad, amazing brand PHI (designed by the amazing Andreas Melbostad) closes

OMG. You thought Vinoodh Matadin was hot now? Look at this NSFW picture from 1986.

Only because Lady Gaga was THE fashion influence of the year, check out this one man’s obsessive creation of 39 of her looks on Barbie dolls. Kinda nuts in a totally fabulous way.

2009 Lists:
Fashion Week Daily‘s Chic citizens of 2009… Here’s numbers 6-10and 1-5.

Jezebel‘s top 10 fashion successes and failures of the year. They also have a pretty good list of their top models of the decade. We would have included Kate Moss who went from a mere supermodel to a model power broker with her recent deals with Topshop.

Contrast this with French Vogue’s 30 top models of the 00’s. All we can say is that of all the INCREDIBLE photos they’ve taken of Daria Werbowy (whose had 3 VP covers in the last year and a half), Anja Rubik, Gisele Bundchen and Lily Donaldson, they chose THOSE to represent these girls??? Congrats to Kasia Struss to making the list.. nice girls don’t always finish last!

Craig from Altamira who obsessively details the models’ streetstyle has some of his best dressed list of 2009.

In the “I just get tired from reading this post” news, Derek Blasberg, just might be the hardest partying man of 2009. Check out these exclusive pics for V Magazine from Derek’s camera.

Some of our favorite agency Xmas emails: Luke Worral’s agents at D1 have Elfed themselves; this slightly creepy, culty video filled with boys and candles from the folks at Nine Daughters and a Stereo, the hilarious card below from the team at Ford NY‘s men’s division and the people at One Management who step in front of the camera for once.

To end the year, take a look at this gorgeous editorial, The 12 days of Christmas from American Vogue Dec 98 from the inimitable team of Steven Meisel and our favorite person in fashion,Grace Coddington.

Tattoo You

December 28th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Hannah Holman brings her delicate beauty to the pages of Vogue Russia in an editorial that focuses on beauty. Alasdair McLellan shoots Hannah looking cool with dramatic winged eye makeup, but the most eye-catching image is that of Hannah being embraced by a tattooed man. The combination of icy stare and all that body art, makes for a uniquely appealing beauty shot.

Bits & Bytes: Lanvin Love

December 18th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

Lanvin Men S/S 10. Inez and Vinoodh by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin

Very few campaigns make an impact in our image and information soaked brains but WWD’s preview of the Lanvin men’s and women’s campaigns have appeared and they are delightful. The energetic Steven Meisel ad of Jamie running down the hallway has already spread like crazy over the blogosphere. Read Alber’s inspiration for the ads, here. The men’s campaign featuring self portraits by the devastatingly handsome Vinoodh Matadin with the lovely Inez van Lamsweerde is an impudent F-U to conservative ads for recessionary times. What we love the most is that, for once, Vinoodh is the target audience for a high end brand like Lanvin, a sophisticated, attractive man of the world…. and one that actually can afford it. Aspirational, indeed.

Lyndsey Scott is this week’s model at W Magazine. Read about how she was discovered on!!

Tom Ford‘s A Single Man gets nominated for 2 Emmy’s (for Julianne Moore and Colin Firth).

Calvin Klein gets Kellan Lutz (say that 3 times fast). Kellan Lutz is the next young actor to watch in the fashion world.

Here’s a memorial to all the magazines that fell this past year.

Fashionisto reviews 2009 for Vogue Hommes Japan, one of our favorite men’s magazines.

Wow. Fashion Copious skewers US Vogue and the old guard. Speaking of new guard, is that Willy Vanderperre‘s first time in American Vogue shooting Lara Stone? Exciting!

One of our favorite casting directors,Daniel Peddle, who works with Phillip Lim and Givenchy, gets interviewed by

Top cover model of the decade (hint, it’s not a model).. Jezebel via The Cut.

Photographer Amadeo Turello‘s new book is very sparse and beautiful, endorsed by Prince Albert of Monaco and filled with images of gorgeous women like Carmen dell’Orefice, Dita Von Teese, Fernanda Tavares,Maggie Rizer, Fernanda Tavares and my favorite 90’s models Tatjana Patitz and Carrie Otis. The Erin O’Connor images with the forbidding clouds is stunning and one of my favorites.

London is loyal… Looks like Burberry, Matthew Williamson, Pringle and a few others are staying in London for fashion week instead of heading back to Milan and Paris.

The future of magazines? Not for $800.

Fashionista cracks us up with this note on the recent Givenchy campaign, combining fashion and pop culture in a good way and not in a Lindsay/Ungaro kind of way.

Plus size models are so in.. let’s hope they are here to stay.. Fashionista gives us the scoop.

If you’re going to start a blog about your favorite model, this is how to do it… it’s funny, critical yet insightful and well written. Makes us want to be a model so that someone can do one about us (almost).

Jon Kortarejana in A Single Man, first look by VGL.
