How did you become interested in modeling?
I first became interested in modeling through my sister who told me about a model casting call she heard about on the radio. Being shy and a bit quiet, I really never gave it much thought. Being made fun of for being tall (5″11″), skinny, long and lanky contributed to me becoming an introvert. I was an honor student in school, getting “A’s” in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Accounting I & II, Statistics and the list goes on. I actually felt insulted that tall people weren’t given credit for having a brain. The average person thought all we could do was play basketball or be a model. I was determined to be more than a pretty face, a long and lanky female whose only ability is basketball or modeling. But, the day I actually got on that runway, it hit me. This is where I belong. I am a model and I have intelligence. I did try basketball, was on a team, but after attending basketball camp all summer I realized, I wanted to save my legs for the runway. I was also told I played basketball like a “girl with a purse on my arm.” I was good, but not aggressive. I couldn’t afford to get hurt.

What agencies have you been in contact through MODELS.com?
I haven’t been in touch with any agencies lately because I am currently on tour with Ebony Fashion Fair. However, I met a scout online for America’s Next Top Model who thought I had everything it took to compete and win the competition. I was invited to a private casting with the casting director, but the tour was leaving Chicago and I couldn’t afford to miss the second show on a 180 city tour. I’ve been contacted in the past by Women of Italy, Bloom and a few other modeling agencies.

What was your experience with them?
My experience with the agencies that I reached out to and that reached out to me was very positive and encouraging. I am mostly interested in small boutique agencies that will put the time and energy into getting work for me. I don’t want to get lost in the larger agencies. The day I heard from Bloom Model Management, I had just left New York for Chicago to get ready for the 180 city Ebony Fashion Fair tour. I am very proud to say, this is the fourth tour I have done for Johnson Publishing Company. Yes, their models are usually larger than the industry wants, however, if you have the look and the talent, they will take smaller sizes as well. I am a size 2 and I am one of the feature models.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
The advice I would give to an aspiring model is to learn the business side of modeling, know your designers, understand it is a business and take it seriously. Answer for yourself, ‘what do you expect to get out of modeling’. Set attainable goals, be willing to make sacrifices and please learn how to take care of yourself. If you understand the business, you won’t get taken and jump at every opportunity that comes your way. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Never be anxious to sign a contract, take time to have a lawyer look over the contract. Finally, have fun, grab some high fashion magazines and play with the looks, learn make up application, play with your hair, get creative with your clothes. Everyday you walk out of your apartment, house or whatever, look the part, because you never know what casting agent is looking for you.

What do you do to keep in shape?
To keep in shape, I eat a healthy diet, no meat, I eat plenty of vegetables, fish, some chicken and turkey (not too much) and I drink milk, and plenty of water. I exercise daily, pilates, jogging, treadmill, dance style aerobics and I walk instead of taking a cab or bus unless traveling to another city for a show, of course. The down side of being on the tour is you can easily fall into the trap of a bad diet. The models that I am closest with work out and eat healthy so even if we can only find fast foods, there is a nice healthy salad waiting. I am disciplined because I have set goals for myself.

What is your favorite beauty product?
My favorite beauty product is lip gloss, mascara. I feel naked without it.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
This model can’t live without: my model bag to include my beauty products, cell phone and my iPod.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?
“Vogue” is my favorite magazine.

Who is your favorite designer?
It is hard for me to name one designer because I like so many of them for different reasons. I love b.Michael who was the first designer I ever did a show for and I am proud to say I was his muse. The hot on the scene right now with the most creative designs are Rubin Singer and Vivienne Westwood. I have fallen in love with their creations for 2009.

Who is your favorite model?
Chanel Iman is my favorite model.

What is your favorite part about modeling?
I love runway modeling because it is like a Calgon moment. Like in the commercial the woman says, “Calgon take me away.” Suddenly for a few seconds each appearance, I escape to a land of high fashion, a land of creativity, beauty, style and grace. Everything stops, and I emerge. It is a feeling that is indescribable.

Who would you most like to model for?
I would love to model for Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta, b.Michael, Anna Sui, Elie Saab, Rubin Singer, Vivienne Westwood, the list goes on. Deciding who I would love to model for is a hard choice for a rising model who needs that one break to choose one designer. Truth is, I would model for all of them if they asked, and would do it for free just to get my designer pumps in the door. Doing a show for a top fashion house for free I would consider an opportunity for success because I have what it takes, just looking for a break and opportunity. I would also love to be a Victoria Secret model and do a shoot for the Sports Illustrated annual swimsuit
edition.

Additional Comments:
I have learned in my time as a model is to be open to your talents. Modeling is my passion, but I also sing, act and I am a make-up artist. My mind was closed to doing anything else but walk the runway. However, I have many gifts that I have come to rely on when the work isn’t there. I was a special extra in “American Gangster,” on Women Entertainment Television on “Hair Trauma” as a model, but the show was about hair. I worked in a Restaurant Karaoke bar, where I had to sing to get the customers interested in getting on stage and then buying the DVD or CD of their performance. Again learn the business and have a plan. Modeling isn’t just about beauty it is about what the client sees, what they can create with the canvas, “you”. Be ready for hard work, long days, and a lot of running.

What agencies have you been in contact through MODELS.com?
I have enjoyed being on Models.com. It’s a great place to network and get feedback. I have been scouted by Figaro and Sebastian Kato, but joined Evolution a short while ago and had a great experience at London Fashion Week where I did catwalk stuff for two designers and was painted in gold with another male model to open a show on the last day. It was a great experience and I’m hoping this year will bring in some great opportunities.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
I would advise new models to not get disheartened. We all have a different look and you can be turned down for lots of jobs before you start getting regular work. Most of all, keep looking fresh…..clean hair, fresh smell. Turn up with a positive attitude for castings. The competition is strong and a happy enthusiastic person will stand out!! I’m only just 17 and really feel that I’m gonna make it!!!

What do you do to keep in shape?
I work out three times a week.

What type of face/grooming products do you use?
I use a range of skin care products to keep my skin looking fresh and I use the sunbed once a week to keep a glow as England isn’t known for it’s sunny weather.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
I always carry a bottle of water and an A to Z.

Who would you most like to model for?
I would love to do some D&G editorial stuff one day.

What type of photography do you do?
I shoot mostly Commercial work including Cosmetic Style Beauty and Fashion. I also get calls from the regular girl who wants to be in the spotlight for the day.

I was studying at the High School of Art & Design and Retained Photography as my major. I went on to study at FIT and took Technical Photography courses at RIT in Rochester New York. When I came back into the city I started testing with all the major agencies at the time and even got jobs through the bookers.

Who/Where do you look to for inspiration?
I believe most New York photographers get their fashion style from what they see out of Europe. That was my earlier stages (my favorite magazine at that time was “Harper Bazaar - Italian”). But, I’m always an Old Master Fan: I loved the tones from Ansel Adams and the style and lighting of Richard Avedon, Robert Mapplethorpe and Helmut Newton added eroticism and stylized Black and White. These are a few of the photographers I look up to. I am also enthralled and captivated by story based photography now, but I have only found a few that express anything interesting. I am looking into mixed media work now and I am finding a lot of great work coming out of Asia - my new inspiration.

What do you look for in a model?
I like people who have a unique look with a great personality. It’s hard to mold someone who is overbearing and I feel a model is like clay and I’m the sculptor. I shoot beauty mostly, so height is not so important. I look at a models ability to act as well.

What was your most memorable shoot?
This is a hard question for me since I’ve shot for so long. Most all of my shoots are in my memory. Some I have completely forgot about and only know about them because I have the pictures to prove I did it. If I really had to pick one that sticks out in my memory it would be a dress shirt line I shot for Montel Williams - the tv host. It’s memorable because they turned it into a circus with tv news and paparazzi. This happened when I was much younger and Montel Williams was still popular, of course. I was never told about the media coming in with extra cameras and such and had to do my best with my crew to get the job done with the extra madness going on around me. I had no PA (Production Assistant) to coordinate people around me so I just shot and actually got great stuff out of the shoot even with the other photographers shooting over my shoulder. I guess it’s one of those worst/best days in shooting that just sticks in my mind.

How did you become interested in modeling?
I was approached on the street by a model scout and decided to give it a shot.

I go jogging every day and try to eliminate all laziness!

How did you become interested in modeling?
I got encouragement from family, friends, co-workers to consider modeling. To me, it wasn’t even about the encouragement/modeling anymore, it was about the guilt I would start to feel for holding myself back and not at least looking into it.

None at the moment. This seems to be happening really fast.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
If people think you have the potential and you want it, then go for it. Always put your inner beauty forward. True beauty oozes out of your pores. It’s part of your entire make-up. Have a good and positive attitude (keeping in mind that there are lots of kids out there who are and would be looking up to you as positive role models down the road). In addition to this, put your pictures on a reputable website such as models.com (if you are still very young and not sure, then ask your parents to look at the website first).The internet has become the quickest way to do almost every transaction in the world today and you can reach out to more people and agencies at the same time, especially if you are not living in some of the major cities. However, keep your other career pursuits active. “Don’t lay all your eggs in one basket.” Have other options - there is so much out there in the world to do, so be careful not to limit other great opportunities for yourself. Be driven, stay grounded and you will get there.

What do you do to keep in shape?
I’m a very active person. I play soccer regularly which is really my favorite pastime. I have a regular workout - do my floor routines at home steadfastly. I do occasional pilates. Eat right and healthy - fruits and vegetables form a major part of my diet (though not entirely). Drink a lot of water. Don’t smoke, don’t do drugs - they deprive the body of its essential nutrients.

What type of face/grooming products do you use?
I know I sound a bit old fashioned, but I don’t really use any. I wash my face regularly with water and apply some moisturizer (with shea butter) which I usually get from the local store.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
A strong dose of humility - confident humility.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?
I glance through a few sometimes, but not very often. I read a lot of books. A daily newspaper doesn’t hurt - so as to have a little knowledge of what’s going on around you and in the world.

Who is your favorite designer?
Not sure if I can single out one because they all have a skill that I don’t have. There are so many greats - Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, D Squared, Tom Ford and so many others. There are also the so many unknown talents who work tirelessly night and day to show the world how good they are. They deserve our recognition too.

Who is your favorite model?
There are lots of beautiful and beautiful looking models that I admire. I like different models for different reasons. I like to know what they do with their time when they are not modeling. What have they done and what are they doing for someone else? Are they helping others make a difference in their lives - no matter how minimal it may be? Is he/she kind, humble and friendly? What causes do they support? These are some of the traits of inner beauty and true beauty comes from within. Outer beauty is great and I’m sure everyone would love to have it, but without an inner beauty, true beauty becomes incomplete. And I’ll have to investigate their dancing abilities before I accurately judge if he/she is in fact a favorite.

What is your favorite part about modeling?
Creativity. Personally, I think it’s a good feeling to be a part of art, do something creative and artistic and be a part of the creative process.

As a teen, I loved to pose for pictures with my friends just for fun. This eventually lead to working as a model in my home country of Ethiopia.

As a new member, my experience is limited. Although, the contacts that I have made are both professional and inspiring.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
It is important to have a vast range of photos which portray a variety of looks. Also, KEEP ON TRYING……patience is crucial.

What do you do to keep in shape?
I workout 5 days a week of which 2 days are alone and 3 days are with my personal trainer. Having someone to “push” me helps to keep me motivated through those tough days. Also, a balanced diet is very important to maintain my energy levels and overall health.

Gotta have the Lancome lip gloss.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
Confidence. A model must be confident regardless of the situation.

Honestly, I don’t have a specific fashion magazine that I love.

Who is your favorite model?
Liya Kebede. As a fellow Ethiopian, she has inspired me to work hard not only as a model, but as a vessel for change. Despite being from a third world country she was able to overcome many obstacles to accomplish her goals.

What is your favorite part about modeling?
There is something about being in the spotlight that inspires me to pose. The clothes, the glamour, it all just makes me feel good.

Who would you most like to model for?
Beauty campaigns for Estee Lauder. Clothing and accessories for D&G and Prada. As a student of fashion design I would eventually most like to model for my own line!!!!

How did you become interested in modeling?
I went to school for film acting so modeling came hand in hand. I have a tremendous passion for acting so when I tried modeling it fed my acting cravings when I wasn’t filming, so i decided to take it on professionally.

What type of photography do you do?
I photograph pop culture figures and, of course, models; but mainly it is about capturing the human spirit, the exact moments that should not be forgotten.

What is your medium (digital or film)?
I mainly do digital, but work with film as well. The reason I prefer digital is the immediate access to seeing your images.

What kind of camera do you use?
I use a Canon 5D, 40D - but I feel it is not the camera that makes your picture. Rather it is the eye, the idea, and just following your instincts. ALWAYS follow your instincts!

How long have you been in the industry?
I have been taking pictures since an early age. I seized the opportunity to take pictures any time I could get my hands on a camera. I loved family parties because it gave me the chance to use someone else’s film, processing, and camera to shoot. But, I started in video/film before photography came into my life, professionally.

How did you get your start?
I had a gut feeling about trying professional photography and I finally acted on it by purchasing my first camera. I took it out of the box and told a client that I wanted to photograph her campaign! I do not have any formal training in photography. I went on set, took a deep breath, and closed my eyes to imagine what I wanted to capture. A full 2 weeks after owning my first camera I took on the job and tried every setting until I got exactly what I had in mind. Basically I threw myself into the job, and was forced to grow on the spot. I do not recommend taking jobs while still green, but I did what I had to do at the time. Since that job, I dedicate time everyday to my craft. On some days I only have a plant to photograph, some days it’s a model, and sometimes it’s a celebrity. My main bit of advice: treat each subject with the same respect and give each one your full attention despite their success level.

Who/Where do you look to for inspiration?
Everyday life. I know that sounds typical but it’s true! I’m always thinking because my mind always races and I always email myself ideas that are later transferred to a journal. I stare a lot. I stare at people, at situations, and I stare at emotional moments. Then when I shoot, I look for those moments that show emotional peaks and lows. The middle stuff, that’s all boring.

What do you look for in a model?
I love unique features. I look for a positive attitude, someone that wants to learn and grow and someone that listens. I’m a sucker for anyone trying to overcome hardship or for thankful people. I don’t mind ending a session if a model is unappreciative, nor do I mind working double hours if they are thankful and open to try new things. A positive attitude is everything and when it comes down to a couple of models for a job, the one with the positive energy ALWAYS wins.

What was your most memorable shoot?
Easily, it was the Usher shoot in Vegas on New Year’s day. He called me unexpectedly at my hotel at 5 a.m. and said, “Look outside your window!” In my state of utter shock and confusion, I replied, “Who is this?!” When you get a call after 1 hour of sleep and the voice on the other end says to look outside the window, ANYTHING is possible, especially in Las Vegas! After a couple of seconds I realized it was Usher, I ran up to his room and he said the sun light was amazing and that we should shoot. Everything about the shoot was natural. It was only Usher and I running down the blvd, through the casino, and on the balcony of his hotel. It was perfect.

How did you become interested in modeling?
I was in a modeling contest when I was 18 years old. I just fell in love with the camera and spotlight.

What agencies have you been in contact through MODELS.com?
A couple, but haven’t signed yet.

What was your experience with them?
Everyone has been great. This site is one of the most legit when it comes to contacting sources over the internet.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
Depends. If you have the look they are looking for at the time they are looking for it, then you can get lucky and get signed right off the bat. Otherwise, it takes a lot of work. You have to earn respect within the industry. Show them you are serious and have the thick skin to survive
within the industry. It’s a business, treat it like one and you will succeed.

What do you do to keep in shape?
I work out about 4 times a week. It’s mostly what you put into your body as well. You have to have a balanced diet. Vitamins. The better you eat the better your skin, nails and hair will be as well, and that’s important.

What is your favorite beauty product?
I don’t have a specific favorite, I use a combination depending on what it is.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
Business smarts. If you don’t have this you might make it in the beginning, but you wont last. A pretty face is a dime a dozen.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?
“Elle” magazine.

Who is your favorite designer?
Trussardi. I just love the sleek designs and color combinations. They are gorgeous. Guess and Bebe are also favorites of mine.

Who is your favorite model?
Kate Moss. She is so versital and she is shorter - gives me inspiration.

What is your favorite part about modeling?
I love being in front of the camera, putting on a show for my audience. I love the whole business side, it’s a challenge to be able to make it. It really is one of the harder jobs to do dealing with rejection day to day. But, it gives you more satisfaction when you make it.

Who would you most like to model for?
I’ve always wanted to do the beauty ads for Dior, Chanel, Maybelline, etc.

Modeling is my dream. I will never stop dreaming until I have it in my hands. When I almost lost my life a few years back I made a decision. I wanted to model and become successful at something I truly loved to do; it had always been a dream of mine. But, all through my life I was always told
the many possibilities of me not making it. Well I was done listening, I was going to prove that it was possible. Here is saying I live by, definition of failure; withdrawal of commitment. So if you never withdraw your commitment, then you will never fail. And I never will, until my dream is in my hand.

How did you become interested in modeling?
Well at the age of 14 I have attained a serious interest in bodybuilding and the male physique. From there I worked until I achieved some sort of a body. At that time the website Myspace was becoming popular. I submitted one self taken picture to their site and got rated top 10 in the nation. That high rating brought me in contact with a fitness company with a very nice photographer which led me in the direction to take pictures and submit them to multiple modeling sites in which other photographers saw my work and requested shoots with me. I took all those advantages and captured every shot possible. Many people have complimented me and said positive things, which motivated me to keep working in modeling and the thought of being in a magazine one day or tv which hasn’t happened yet makes me continue with this. Through your website I found the agency Empire models. I compiled my best pictures and eventually submitted with them.

What was your experience with them?
So far I am extremely pleased with Ryan Colby’s work and the work of the whole team to bring me to where I am now.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
Take advantage of TFCD shoots, and don’t let small things discourage you. Work to your potential and what you strive to attain will come.

What do you do to keep in shape?
Good diet, hard work. Spend a lot of time in the gym, but most of all make sure your diet is A++. Those days when you want to use the excuse ‘I don’t need the gym because I was there two days ago,’ grab a hold of yourself and push to make it there.

What type of face/grooming products do you use?
Proactive and witch hazel to clean my face. Pomade and Got2b hair gel for the hair.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
One thing I cannot be without is a good protein shake.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?

I have a lot, but the one I really like is Tom Cruise who is an actor.

I love constructive criticism from different professional photographers on things I can do to better myself.

I am happy with Empire, but I would love to work on a constant basis with Abercrombie and Fitch and Armani.

What type of photography do you do?
Whatever captures the true spirit of a human being. Also, I love discovering and capturing dramatic, surprising beauty.

What is your medium (digital or film)?
Both - it depends on the situations. Sometimes I shoot with 7 cameras at the same time! Every camera has its own look – it’s like an artist with their paintbrush, each one unique with its own distinct brush stroke.

What kind of camera do you use?
My favorite is my Hasselblad, but sometimes I just reach for the first camera I can grab out of my collection! I love spontaneous moments!

How long have you been in the industry?
I was born into a family of photographers - My father, stepfather and grandfather were all in the industry (way to go mom). Ironically, I never liked it as a kid – all the messy chemicals and nasty smells! Then I fell in love with capturing the essence of my subjects – being able to bring out hidden beauty in things is what motivates me. I feel like I’ve been given a gift when the true nature of a person or object is revealed to me.

Who/Where do you look to for inspiration?
Irvine Penn and New York City streets. I like to people watch a lot – Manhattan is one big stage show and its people are the stars – like Warhol said, ‘everyone deserves their 15 minutes of fame.’

How did you get your start?
I just began shooting what I loved, and capturing what I thought was beautiful. I also worked really hard for the past few years! Believe me, I’ve put in the hours and done favors for people, but I am so passionate about my work it’s almost an obsession. Photography is like telling a story. Thankfully, people are responding well to my stories – little pieces of love, life and the hidden inherent beauty of everyday things.

What was your most memorable shoot?
Having a brick wall collapse with me while shooting on a industrial location. The first thing I did when I got up was look at the lens of my camera to see if it cracked, then later after the shoot was over I realized I had fractured my arm :). I kept shooting like that until I ran out of film.

How did you become interested in modeling?
I became interested in modeling for two reasons, one because people were hiring me to do it and two because it reminded me so much of acting which is my main profession. So much of modeling is acting.

None so far because I am still new and figuring out how to use the website!

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
Never give up and keep trying and listen to advice. Keep shooting with good photographers who will agree to shoot with you (make sure they are not shady). Brand yourself!

What do you do to keep in shape?
Bikram Yoga. I teach it too. A lot of my modeling experience has been for Bikram, he was like my second father. He raised me and taught me yoga since I was five years old. I won a medal for Best in Posture for my training and I have competed in the International Yoga Competition. He taught my parents yoga who were both very well known actors too. My dad was famous, Gary Lockwood, he played the astronaut Frank Poole in “2001: A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick.

What is your favorite beauty product?
My own invention, Fleurings. It’s taken me 6 years to design these, they are earrings and necklaces that hold water and flowers. They’ll be available online soon.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
Besides mascara, I’d say - personality.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?
“Vanity Fair.” Does that count? I love their photo spreads and interviews as well as their fashion content.

Who is your favorite designer?
This is a tough question because I really don’t have a favorite. That is the beauty of fashion is that you can take what you like from everyone. Besides I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out!

Who is your favorite model?
Again, another hard question, I like different models for different reasons. I used to think Giselle was my favorite, but now I feel like I’ve seen her a lot and I still think she’s amazing but, I get bored. I like to know more about a model to make her my favorite. I like to know what causes she supports, what does she do when she’s not modeling, is she friendly and kind? Those are traits of true beauty. Models and all people can all start looking alike after a while and personality is what defines one from the next. I like interesting faces. I like the look of Devon Aoki, she’s an actress too. I like unique beauty.

What is your favorite part about modeling?
Traveling and meeting cool people.

Who would you most like to model for?
Guess (for their sexy ads) and Versace (because I love their colorful and flowy dresses). I’d love to do a cosmetics and beauty campaign for L’Oreal or someone like that.

What type of photography do you do?
Whatever captures the true spirit of a human being. Also, I love discovering and capturing dramatic, surprising beauty.

What is your medium (digital or film)?
Both - it depends on the situations. Sometimes I shoot with 7 cameras at the same time! Every camera has its own look – it’s like an artist with their paintbrush, each one unique with its own distinct brush stroke.

What do you do to keep in shape?
I work out 5-6 times a week and watch what I eat. I still sneak a burger or pizza in the mix, but I try to keep that to a minimum.

Anthony products are the BEST! That line is amazing.

Sleep.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?
“GQ” but, of course.

I would have to say Ralph Lauren, he’s been a trend setter for years and most likely for years to come.

I love fashion. Growing up I was a tomboy so I was a little late in the game, but by the time I hit my early teens I saw Cavalli dresses and thought to myself, “Get me on a runway!”

I do yoga with my little cousins! I find it’s therapeutic, yet challenging.

Lip balm. I have found that while running to class or catching a train the one thing every woman should always have are pouty, moisturized lips!

I am inspired by “W” magazine and “Harper’s Bazaar.” The creative energy and artistic vision continuously leaves me wanting more. To me, they are both much more than a fashion magazine, they are a movement.

I would have to say my favorite part of modeling is expressing myself. I feel success when my photographer’s vision is complete and I’m in it!

I would love to model for Victoria’s Secret. They need a redhead!

How did you become interested in modeling?
I’ve seen a lot of runway shows, and read and seen a lot about models and the model-environment in magazines. Then I thought maybe I had a chance in the business of the modeling world, thinking it could be worth taking the chance, which I don’t regret at all today.

What was your experience with them?
My experience has been good, I have a couple of agencies showing interest, but I think it´s still to soon to give a statement about it.

It requires hard work and care of your skin and body. One thing you could do, as a start, is to get a professional photographer to take some good test images of you that you can use to send to the different agencies around the world or put on your portfolio here on Models.com.

What do you do to keep in shape?
I go to the gym 3 times a week to workout, then I like to run to keep myself in a good shape.

Ole Henriksensand men’s Clinique products are doing an amazing job for my skin for extra care and softness.

Mathias Lauridsen. He is a Dane like myself. He has incredibly strong facial features and he’s a good inspiration for other models.

I just love the environment and that work can change so much character from day to day. No job is ever the same. Always new challenges to work with. I then get more experience for personal development and to do the next job better.

How did you get your start?
How I got started in this business? Actually, my family has been in it for generations. A family of beauty. I was always around hair/make-up as long as I can remember and use to fix up my dolls, friends and neighbors that lived around us. I then went to beauty college when I was 21. Now at 41 I really love my job. I stuck more to the styling hair, nails, skin, make-up. I am really a package. I do more than just make-up. I do wardrobe, hair, and create concepts also. I love, live and walk fashion. One of my dreams is to move to NY and meet Tyra Banks. My next project is learning and studying photography all in one package.

Who/Where do you look to for inspiration?
My true inspirations, well, first my mother - she died April 4th 2006 of cancer, so I promised I would always keep up my talents. Tyra Banks as a model she keeps it real and is such a talented lady. Rachel Zoe as a wardrobe stylist, Jay Manuel as a make-up artist. There are so many inspirations for me in the fashion world. One of my true most desired aspirations is to move to the fashion capitol of the world New York City.

What do you look for in a model?
I look for confidence and what is real about him/her. How the model carries their self in posing/walking and personality. Also, I look for how serious they are about the job. Do they enjoy it or are they just doing it for money.

What was your most memorable job?
My most memorable job would have to be when I went to Cebu, Philippines January 2008 to work for Big Foot Entertainment and Fashion TV. That was the experience of a lifetime. I learned so much about film, make-up, underwater shoots and underwater make-up. That must be my favorite now - underwater fashion and make-up. Doing a shoot underwater takes a lot of work, time, and dedication of the whole crew. The model does have a rough part, but the images come out fantastic. I learned so much from Mick Gleissner about the business and Bebe Pham (super model) taught me a lot about how a model should be. I love her. The best advice came from Rick Robinson, the producer. He taught me much about the film industry and the industry. That was the best experience and a wonderful month. I am known for being the best underwater make-up artist in the bay area of California.

How did you become interested in modeling?
I was very tall and skinny growing up and people would tell me I should be a model. I never gave it much thought until a photography student friend of mine asked me to pose for him for a school project. We did a shoot at a studio he was interning at and the photographer who owned the studio told me I should go visit some agencies. Now I am signed with Click Models in Los Angeles.

What was your experience with them?
I’ve had some correspondence with them. Models.com is a great way to contact and look up agencies.

Always keep your personal presentation in mind, how you walk, speak, dress…etc. Study poses in magazines and work on facial expressions in front of the mirror. And, always love and enjoy what you are doing =)

Luckily I have been blessed with a very high metabolism! But, I do love my Wii sports! Hehe.

I never really considered being a model until I was in my last year of high school. Just walking down the street with some friends, a model scout saw me and asked if I wanted to be a model. At first I thought he was kidding because my hometown is a really small town in ‘the middle of nowhere.’ But, he was serious, so I decided to take a chance in the fashion world.

Don’t wait for agencies to see you. Go out, use the internet, send pictures. If you really have what it takes to be a model, you will make it. Don’t give up!

When I was 17 I used go to the gym and work out really hard, but now I just run a few miles a day and do some ab exercises.

How long have you been in the industry?
It seems like I’ve been in the industry, in one form or another, since attending college at The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. My experience in makeup artistry started in March 2005 - it was my first photo shoot as a makeup artist and model.

How did you get your start?
My closest friends in high school were often my guinea pigs initially - my love of art moved from painting canvases to faces. After high school, I went to FIT where I studied advertising and communications. I was blessed with many opportunities in the fashion industry. My formal education in makeup started in September 2005 when I began aesthetics school - I am currently a licensed aesthetician in New York, Utah, and Colorado. Since then I have combined my knowledge of clinical skin care and makeup application working for Estee Lauder as a counter manager and then eventually becoming a part of their regional artistry team.

Who/Where do you look to for inspiration?
Inspiration is all around us… I believe the application of makeup is an art form - whether the results are simple or dramatic… It is the ability to transform any canvas set before you.

What do you look for in a model?
Beautiful personality and skin.

What was your most memorable job?
My first magazine cover - it started at 8 AM and it didn’t end until after 8 PM. It was a great experience and opportunity to work on so many different skin types, bone structures, and personalities.

How did you become interested in modeling?
I adore clothes and dressing up and my nickname at school is giraffe. All the kids thought I should be in modeling because of my height. Since I am always posing before my family in my living room my mom decided to do something about it. So she got me enrolled at Models.com hoping that an agency will notice me.

I haven’t been in contact with any agency as yet, but I am hopeful that someone will see something special in me and would like to have me as part of their agency.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
My advice to other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents is to try to get good shots of yourself out there and be yourself. Don’t try to be an imitation of someone else; if you are being false it will come out in the end.

What do you do to keep in shape?
I keep in shape by dancing. Three times per week I do classic ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. Swimming also does wonders to keep my body toned.

What is your favorite beauty product?
My favorite beauty product is the mascara from Covergirl. I think it’s great to highlight my eyes.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
I think a model cannot do without her high heels, it gives that little extra to a great outfit.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?
My favorite fashion magazine is “Vogue,” it has such beautiful clothes and I think the best models. To be in such a magazine would be an honor for any model.

Who is your favorite designer?
My favorite designer is BCBG. Their dresses are so lovely and girlie. The latest designs are so colorful and I would love to wear them all.

Who is your favorite model?
My favorite model is Adriana Lima. She is very beautiful and she is from a small town like myself. She doesn’t forget where she is from which is important. She helps with an orphanage in her home town and I admire her for that. Also, like her I speak several languages - Dutch, English, Spanish and Papiamentu.

What is your favorite part about modeling?
My favorite part about modeling is dressing up in wonderful designer clothes and just gliding down the runway.

Who would you most like to model for?
I would love to model for Nicolaas de Bruin; he is the photographer who did the pictures that my mom placed on Models.com. He is such a natural at what he does, he is very good at making me feel at ease and be myself. He is my favorite photographer!

How did you become interested in modeling?
I have studied film and photography and it came around by osmosis when my other photographer friends asked me to pose.

What was your experience with them?
I was asked for digitals.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
If other photographers are willing to work with you for free, that’s usually a good sign you are heading in the right direction.

I rarely drive or take the train, I walk everywhere. I eat a lot of fiber as well.

Olay products, it may sound campy, but it gives me the best results.

SPF. Too much sun will make you look old really fast.

How did you get your start?
I packed up my little VW Beetle and drove out to California from Atlanta, GA with a dream of becoming a make-up artist. I then met Margaret Kimura www.mkcbeautyacademy.com and instantly enrolled in her school.

My inspiration comes from my childhood - growing up in Asia and Europe has definitely changed the way I look at the world.

What do you look for in a model?
There is something in the eyes of a true model and I am always able to spot it immediately!

What was your most memorable job?
It has to be my work on a short film entitled “Convincing Benny” written and directed by “Malcolm in the Middles,” Bill Hooper - the whole experience was my first ‘in the industry’ and it really convinced me that this is what I want to do with my life.

How did you become interested in modeling?
I became interested in modeling when I was 16 years old after numerous people had said that I had what it took to be a model. I was further encouraged by a meeting with the singer Paul Weller who said that I should be a model. It is something that I always wanted to do…a fascinating career in a vibrant and ever changing industry.

What agencies have you been in contact through MODELS.com?
I have been contacted by numerous agencies and also individuals through models.com.

What was your experience with them?
They have been polite and efficient, and I have followed up with visits to the agencies themselves. I have been to see Elite, Ford and Wilhelmina in NYC, but being British it is hard for me to work in the USA. I will pursue meetings with London agencies as well as those in Europe.

What advice would you have for other aspiring models trying to get noticed by these agents?
My advice would be to have great polaroids…agents can tell all they need to know from polaroids…ask a trusted friend to take some digital snap shops (lots of them) and then chose the best ones, making sure that you have a front one, profile and full length body shot.

What do you do to keep in shape?
To keep in shape I train every day for 45mins to an hour. I do cardio for 10-15mins and then weight training and Pilates. I do light weights on a high rep as this works well for my body type. I also swim at least once a week.

What is your favorite beauty product?
My favorite beauty product is my Shu Uemura cleansing oil…it’s amazing and my Eve Lom facial mask.

What is one thing a model cannot be without?
A model cannot be without an iPod…load it up with your favorite music and books and it will keep you occupied. There is a lot of waiting around, so it’s important to keep yourself busy.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?
My favorite fashion magazine is ‘Vogue.” it’s up to date, has the most beautiful editorials, the best models and is the holy grail for any model to be in.

Who is your favorite designer?
My favorite designer is Coco Chanel…she was a visionary for her time and gave women options that hadn’t previously been available to them. Her talent is clear in the sense that even now, her clothes are synonymous with style…anyone interested in fashion would be able to recognize one of the designs, from the quilted bag to the tweed suits and jackets to the double “C” logo. I am also a huge fan of John Galliano and his theatrical designs and amazingly extravagant catwalk shows.

Who is your favorite model?
My favorite model is Gisele Bundchen, beautiful, natural and an incredible business women who has shown that beauty and brains can be combined.

What is your favorite part about modeling?
My favorite part of being a model is that you get to meet the most fabulously creative people…people with artistic talent and vision that you get in no other industry. Everybody has fought to get where they are and people genuinely love what they do…making the whole experience a pleasure.

Who would you most like to model for?
I would most like to model for Patrick Demachelier…one of the most talented photographers whose use of light is incredible…he is my favorite photographer and always comes across as being super friendly and professional.
